Accordingly, Bild newspaper quoted sources in the German Government as saying that the US and Germany want to push Ukrainian President Vladimir Zelensky to negotiate with Russia by providing Kiev with only enough weapons to fight on the front line.
“The German-American plan is to provide Kiev with only the appropriate quantity and type of weapons to allow the Ukrainian army to fight on the front line, not to provide Kiev with weapons to regain Russian-controlled territories,” Bild said.

"President Vladimir Zelensky will have to realize that Ukraine cannot fight without outside support. Then he will consider holding negotiations," Bild quoted the source as saying.
According to Bild 's source, the US and Germany want President Zelensky to realize that prolonging the conflict is not in Ukraine's interests.
However, neither Chancellor Olaf Scholz nor US President Joe Biden have indicated any intention of directly asking Mr Zelensky to start negotiations with Russia. The US and Germany are Kiev’s largest arms suppliers.
According to the German newspaper, the situation on the battlefield is difficult for Ukraine and Russian troops are advancing. The main goal of the German government now is to help officials in Kiev gain a "strategically favorable negotiating position".
“The White House and the German Chancellor's Office are coordinating actions on this issue ,” Bild said, stressing that Washington and Berlin are also considering a plan B.
Accordingly, in the absence of peace negotiations between Russia and Ukraine, Berlin and Washington are considering freezing the conflict, without an agreement between the parties.
Recently, Russian President Vladimir Putin said that Moscow has never refused to negotiate a peaceful solution to the ongoing conflict with Kiev.
Meanwhile, President Vladimir Zelensky has rejected any idea of holding peace talks with Russia despite the difficult situation of the Ukrainian army on the battlefield. He admitted that Ukraine faces “many challenges” and that Kiev “needs concrete results on the battlefield” to appeal to the West for continued aid.
The Russia-Ukraine conflict has dragged on and become a war of attrition. There has been a sense of fatigue in the US and other Western countries that have provided aid to Kiev. Slovakia has announced that it will stop providing aid to Ukraine.
Many peace proposals for the conflict have been put forward, but have not yet yielded results due to differences in views between Russia and Ukraine.
The West continues to pump weapons into Ukraine to confront Russia. Moscow believes that the decision of the US and NATO countries to supply heavy weapons to Ukraine makes negotiations between Russia and Ukraine "meaningless".
Russia has repeatedly accused the US and its allies of deliberately trying to prolong the conflict, warning the West not to provide weapons to Ukraine, stressing that this would only escalate the conflict and cause unnecessary casualties without changing the situation of the war.
