Malaysian durian "burns" the market: 355 million USD within reach
Malaysia’s Ministry of Agriculture and Food Security (KPKM) is pinning high hopes on durian exports, which are expected to surpass RM1.5 billion (about US$355 million) this year. The promising growth is driven by strong demand from key international markets such as China, Singapore, Hong Kong and Canada.
Minister Datuk Seri Mohamad Sabu highlighted that Malaysia’s total durian export value has seen an impressive jump in the past five years, increasing by 256.3% to RM822.8 million. Specifically, from RM321.2 million in 2018, the figure has reached RM1.14 billion in 2022. This remarkable growth not only affirms the great potential of durian as a high-value agricultural product but also opens up many economic opportunities for the people and contributes significantly to the national revenue.
