Whether the U23 Vietnam - Indonesia final will have VAR or not is still uncertain.

There has been no confirmation that the final match of the 2025 Southeast Asian U23 Championship between U23 Vietnam and Indonesia will use video assistant referee (VAR) technology.

On July 27, there was a lot of information confirming that VAR will be used in the final match of the 2025 Southeast Asian U23 Championship between U23 Vietnam and U23 Indonesia. The match will take place at 8:00 p.m. on July 29.

The 2025 Southeast Asian U23 Tournament does not use VAR technology, so many controversial situations have appeared.

Looking back at history, not using VAR in this year's tournament is a shortcoming. At the most recent Southeast Asian U23 Championship held in Thailand, VAR was used from the semi-finals.

Therefore, the use of VAR in the final, especially the fateful match between U23 Indonesia and Vietnam, is considered very necessary. However, up to this point, information about VAR being used in the final has only come from the Vietnamese media.

The website of the 2025 Southeast Asian U23 Championship, https://aseanutdfc.com, has not yet made any official announcement about the use of VAR for the final match as of the evening of July 27. Meanwhile, Bola.com (Indonesia) has contacted the Secretary General of the Indonesian Football Association (PSSI) Yunus Nusi to clarify this information.

The PSSI official neither denied nor confirmed the information published by the Vietnamese press. Instead, Mr. Yunus Nusi said: "Unfortunately, this information will not be announced until tomorrow (July 28). Whether or not to use VAR is still being processed. We will announce when it is confirmed."

So whether the U23 Southeast Asian final will use VAR or not has not been determined yet. The reason the tournament organizers need more time to decide whether to use VAR or not may be because Indonesia is in the process of training referees on VAR. They have a bit of a problem with the human resources to operate the system.
