On December 25, the Kremlin announced that the $1 billion that the US transferred to Ukraine through the World Bank (WB) from revenue from frozen Russian assets was an act of theft.

"This stolen money is ours. And those reserves are being blocked absolutely illegally. This is against all norms and rules," Kremlin spokesman Dmitry Peskov stressed.
Such illegal actions, of course, in the long run can become a reason for Moscow to take legal measures, he noted.
"We will definitely take every opportunity to protect our rights and property rights," Dmitry Peskov said.
Previously, on December 24, Ukrainian Prime Minister Denys Shmyhal announced on social media that the US had transferred the first $1 billion from a loan secured by frozen Russian assets to Ukraine.
This is seen as the first step in a series of financial assistance that Moscow - whether it wants it or not - must provide to the Ukrainian people.
According to Mr. Denys Shmyhal, this $1 billion amount is the first disbursement in the $20 billion support package that the world's largest economy has committed to, within the framework of the $50 billion G7 initiative.
