Speaking at the seminar on Green Logistics Development, Rapid Adaptation and the announcement of the FIATA World Congress 2025 on July 9, Mr. Ngo Sy Hoai said that Vietnam's wood industry is currently ranked 5th in the world in terms of total export turnover. In addition, if only considering the group of high value-added wooden products, such as indoor and outdoor wooden furniture, Vietnam's wood export industry ranks 2nd in the world, after China.
According to VIFOREST leaders, Vietnam's wood exports have now reached 170 markets around the world. Of which, the US, Japan, China, South Korea and EU account for over 90% of export turnover.
In particular, the US accounts for nearly 40% of the total export turnover of Vietnam's wood industry. If the US imports 10 chairs, 4 of them are "Made in Vietnam".
In fact, the US is still the largest market for wood and forestry products exports from our country. In the first 6 months of the year, the export turnover of wood and timber products to the US reached 4.38 billion USD, accounting for 55% of the total export turnover of the whole industry.
The US increased imports of Vietnamese wood and wood products, showing that demand is recovering rapidly in this country. Of which, wooden furniture is the main export item to the US.
Similarly, in the Chinese market, Vietnamese wood and wood products are very popular in this country, with a turnover of more than 1 billion USD in just half of 2024. According to the latest statistics from the Chinese Customs Administration, in the first 6 months of 2024, Vietnam surpassed Thailand to become the third largest supplier of wooden furniture, after Italy and Germany.
According to statistics from the Department of Forestry, under the Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Development, in the first 6 months of 2024, Vietnam's wood and forest product exports earned 7.95 billion USD, an increase of about 21.2% over the same period in 2023 and reaching 52.3% compared to the plan for the whole year. Notably, some major markets for Vietnam's wood and forest products increased sharply, such as the US (reaching 4.38 billion USD, up 27.6% over the same period in 2023) and China (reaching 1.059 billion USD, up 46.6%).
