Cosmetics advertised as 'white as the sun' recalled nationwide

E150 turmeric cream of Tan Ha Lan Company Limited was recalled nationwide by the Drug Administration of Vietnam due to violating labeling regulations and falsely advertising product uses.

The Drug Administration of Vietnam ( Ministry of Health ) has just issued a decision to suspend circulation and recall nationwide the product batch E150 Turmeric Cream - Box of 1 tube of 20g, batch number: 01, production date 02/01/2024, expiry date until 01/2029. This is a product of Tan Ha Lan Company Limited (address in Tay Ho ward, Hanoi city), manufactured at a branch located in Dong Tho multi-industrial cluster, Bac Ninh province.

The reason for the recall is due to labeling that deviates from the published content, violating regulations on advertising cosmetic uses.

Specifically, the product is introduced with misleading phrases such as: "For smooth, white skin as bright as the sun"; "Natural vitamin E"; "Helps get rid of acne", "Remove stretch marks, dark spots"; "Remove dark spots".

In addition, the company name printed on the packaging does not comply with the regulations in Circular 06/2011/TT-BYT on cosmetics management.

The incident was discovered after the Center for Drug, Cosmetic and Food Testing - Hanoi Department of Health took samples for testing at a cosmetics retail counter at Hapu Pharmaceutical Distribution Center (Thanh Xuan District).

The test results and related documents are attached with Official Dispatch No. 1012/KNTMPTP-KHTCKT dated June 20, 2025 as the basis for the Drug Administration of Vietnam to issue a recall order.

The Drug Administration of Vietnam requests all provincial and municipal Health Departments to stop circulation and completely recall the above product batch, notify businesses and users to return the product to the supplier.

Tan Ha Lan Company Limited and its branch in Bac Ninh are responsible for: Sending recall notices to all distribution and product usage points; Recalling and receiving violating products. If the violating label cannot be removed from the goods, they must be destroyed according to regulations.

Enterprises must submit a recall report to the Drug Administration of Vietnam before September 22, 2025, and simultaneously review all other batches of the same product. In case of detecting similar violations, they must proactively recall and report before September 7, 2025. If the report is dishonest, the enterprise will be fully responsible before the law.

The Department of Health of Hanoi and Bac Ninh cities are assigned to closely monitor the recall process, and inspect the company and its branches' compliance with the law on cosmetics management. The inspection and supervision results must be sent to the Drug Administration of Vietnam before October 7, 2025.

This is a strong warning to cosmetic businesses to strictly comply with regulations on product labeling, advertising and disclosure. Using messages that are not true to the nature of the product, even if it is intended to "attract customers", can lead to serious consequences.

Recently, authorities have continuously discovered many violations at pharmaceutical and cosmetic production and trading establishments, forcing them to recall and destroy many counterfeit or substandard products.

In June alone, the Department of Pharmacy conducted surprise inspections of 38 establishments and discovered 17 violations. During the same period, authorities in 20 provinces and cities inspected 865 manufacturing, importing, and trading establishments and recorded 48 violations.
