According to AP, US officials said that on May 26, US forces carried out "defensive" airstrikes against Iranian military facilities after shooting down attacking drones.
Unnamed officials said the U.S. Central Command (CENTCOM) shot down four Iranian suicide drones deemed a threat around the Strait of Hormuz. Additionally, U.S. forces attacked an Iranian ground control station in Bandar Abbas, where a fifth drone was being prepared for launch.

The airstrikes came after President Donald Trump declared on Wednesday that Iran was “negotiating in a state of exhaustion,” and asserted that the November midterm elections meant he was in no hurry to reach an agreement to end the nearly three-month-long conflict that has destabilized the global economy .
In his opening remarks at the cabinet meeting, Trump expressed confidence that an agreement was nearing completion. Over the weekend, he even declared that the US and Tehran administrations were “largely finished” on a solution, although negotiations were far from over.
The US president wants to reach an agreement that would reopen the Strait of Hormuz and give him grounds to declare that Iran's nuclear capabilities have been sufficiently diminished to be considered a victory, thereby ending a war that is unpopular with Republican voters.
However, in the current situation, Trump also faces the risk that the war he has chosen will end in an unsatisfactory way.
The developing agreement has postponed many key issues to a later stage, while drawing sharp criticism from Trump—including some of his supporters—that Iran's hardline leadership could emerge from the conflict weakened but still more assertive.
Under the potential agreement, Tehran would agree to give up its stockpile of highly enriched uranium – a key demand of Trump – in exchange for the lifting of sanctions. This information was revealed on condition of anonymity by two regional officials and a senior official in the Trump administration.
An official with direct knowledge of the negotiations said the method by which Iran would relinquish its uranium would continue to be negotiated over the next 60 days. Part of the uranium could be diluted, while the rest would be transferred to a third country.
Trump said he was "uncomfortable" if Russia or China took possession of Iran's highly enriched uranium, even though these are the two countries with the closest ties to Tehran.
According to the International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA), Iran currently possesses approximately 440.9 kg of uranium enriched to 60% purity, just a short technical step away from the level suitable for nuclear weapons (90%).
Meanwhile, Iran has denied the allegations.
