US, China 'spend big' to increase purchases of Vietnamese wood

According to the Department of Forestry (Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Development), the export value of forestry products in the first 6 months of the year is estimated at 7.95 billion USD, an increase of 21.2% over the same period in 2023, reaching 52.3% of the plan.

Exports to some major markets increased sharply, such as: the US reached 4.38 billion USD, up 27.6%; China reached more than 1 billion USD, up 46.6%.

The export value of forestry products in the first 6 months of the year is estimated at 7.95 billion USD, up 21.2% over the same period in 2023, reaching 52.3% of the plan.

The trade surplus in the first 6 months of the year is estimated at nearly 6.7 billion USD, up 21.6%. The product with the largest trade surplus is wood and wood products (6.16 billion USD, up 22.5%).

On the other hand, a representative of the Forestry Department said that the import value of wood and wood products in the first 6 months of the year is estimated at 1.29 billion USD, an increase of 19% over the same period in 2023.

The Import-Export Department ( Ministry of Industry and Trade ) informed that since the beginning of the year, wood and wood products exported to the US market have grown strongly, showing that demand is recovering rapidly in this market.

Exports of wood and wood products to the US have recorded positive growth rates. Wooden furniture is the main export item to the US, which also brings high added value to the wood industry.

In the second half of the year, the forestry sector will continue to organize and implement tasks and solutions for sustainable development of the wood processing and export forestry industry; coordinate in preventing trade fraud; closely follow and develop import-export management scenarios to ensure the achievement of annual plan targets.

In addition, strengthen the management of forestry seed quality, focus on selecting and creating high-tech forestry seed, native trees, and intensive forest cultivation suitable for the ecosystem to increase productivity and output of planted forests, and develop large-scale timber production forests.
