On November 28, Ten Asia reported that male singer Nam Woo Hyun (member of Infinite) underwent 10 hours of general anesthesia and endoscopic surgery this year due to a rare cancer.
“I have a rare cancer. I have gastrointestinal stromal tumor (GIST). It is said that only one in a million people have this disease. I had fan meetings in January and February, then had surgery around the end of April. It was a laparoscopic surgery. My abdomen was cut about 20 centimeters and I still have scars,” Nam Woo Hyun said.
“I had to be under general anesthesia for 10 hours, and even had to have 2-3 cm of my esophagus surgically removed. I couldn’t eat for two months and couldn’t drink water for three weeks. I had to wear a blood bag and that was a very difficult time,” he continued.
Nam Woo Hyun admitted that after the surgery he could not sing as well as before. He felt short of breath when dancing and singing.

Despite his health issues, Nam Woo Hyun still appeared on stage at Infinite's concert and recently released his first solo album with a total of 11 songs. The singer explained that since White Tree is his first solo album released after overcoming difficult times, he wanted to convey hope through bright songs.
Regarding his participation in Infinite's concert, Nam Woo Hyun shared that his bandmates and doctors tried to stop him. However, he still decided to perform even though he might fall on stage or risk surgery.
Nam Woo Hyun said, "I'm healthy now. I have to have checkups every 10 months and the recent checkup showed that the wound has healed. I can run and walk well. There is a few percent chance of recurrence, but fortunately, the surgery went well and I just need to continue to do tests in the future."
When asked if his life values changed after going through a difficult time, Nam Woo Hyun replied, "It changed a lot. I feel like I was reborn. I thought a lot while I was in the hospital and I think I matured musically . I also hope that those who are sick will overcome it well."
Nam Woo Hyun was born in 1991 and is a member of the group Infinite. The group was founded in 2010 and has many famous songs such as The Chaser, Be Mine ... At the end of December, Infinite will perform at My Dinh Stadium, Hanoi .
