This year, Ho Chi Minh City aims to eliminate at least one traffic congestion hotspot.

The list of traffic congestion "hotspots" is included in the plan for coordinating the implementation of solutions to address traffic congestion risk points in Ho Chi Minh City in 2023, which was recently issued by the Ho Chi Minh City Department of Transport.

Traffic congestion in Ho Chi Minh City is becoming increasingly serious.

Accordingly, the Department of Transport noted that two traffic congestion points have shown improvement recently: the intersection of National Highway 50 and Nguyen Van Linh Street (Binh Chanh District) and the intersection of Nguyen Oanh and Phan Van Tri Streets (Go Vap District). Regarding the National Highway 50 - Nguyen Van Linh intersection, the Department will coordinate with Phu My Hung Development Co., Ltd. to report on a plan to improve this intersection for a complete solution. Similarly, the Nguyen Oanh - Phan Van Tri intersection will also be studied for geometric size improvements and a plan to prohibit cars from turning left during certain hours from Phan Van Tri Street onto Nguyen Oanh Street may be implemented.

There are 14 traffic hotspots that have shown improvement but remain complex. These include several "familiar congested" routes for city residents such as the Ton Duc Thang - Nguyen Huu Canh - Nguyen Binh Khiem area (District 1), the Lang Cha Ca roundabout (Tan Binh District), the My Thuy intersection, the An Phu intersection (Thu Duc City), and the Nguyen Van Linh - Nguyen Huu Tho intersection (District 7)...

Notably, the Ho Chi Minh City Department of Transport recorded 8 traffic congestion "hotspots" with no improvement, including: Nguyen Thi Dinh Street (from My Thuy roundabout to Cat Lai port - Thu Duc City), Nguyen Tat Thanh Street (District 4), Cong Hoa - Hoang Hoa Tham intersection, Tran Quoc Hoan, Phan Thuc Duyet intersection, Truong Chinh Street (Tan Binh District) and 3 streets in Binh Thanh District including Dinh Bo Linh - Bach Dang intersection, Xo Viet Nghe Tinh Street (from Bach Dang to the Martyrs' Monument intersection), and Hang Xanh intersection.

In the recently issued plan, the Department of Transport aims to accelerate the progress of key projects and monitor and update traffic conditions to reroute traffic and reduce congestion at 24 locations. This year, at least one congestion point will be eliminated at the Kênh Xáng bridge area on Trần Văn Giàu road, Bình Chánh district.

Besides implementing major projects, non-structural solutions are being focused on, such as continuous monitoring and appropriate traffic regulation; increased inspection and handling of traffic violations on the roads... The city will enhance the application of technology in management to promptly address newly arising situations and overcome infrastructure shortcomings.
