Pham Vu Tuan Dat, graduated in Computer Science from Hanoi University of Science and Technology with an impressive GPA of 3.66/4 and a training score of 97/100, became one of 9 excellent students to graduate early this time.

Before joining Nvidia, Dat was a member of the FPT Youth Talent Center and interned at VinBrain, an AI development company in the healthcare sector. After nearly a year of working there, Dat became an official employee of VinBrain. At the end of 2024, when Nvidia acquired VinBrain, Dat was given the opportunity to work at Nvidia Vietnam. "I am lucky and grateful for these valuable assets before graduating from university," Dat shared.

Dat's journey began in his final years of middle school, when the Dien Bien student was curious about how to build a meal planning tool that suits his preferences and nutrition. However, most tools did not support Vietnamese dishes and the features that Dat desired.

Unable to find a satisfactory solution, Dat asked himself: "How can I create such a tool myself?" From there, Dat learned programming, searched through Google and technology forums, and contacted local teachers for guidance. "The more I learned, the more excited I became to see that each line of code could turn ideas into reality," Dat said.

Dat said that when he entered high school, he seriously planned to pursue a career in computer science and artificial intelligence, believing that technology not only solves personal needs but also creates great social impact. Dat decided to start that journey and was determined to be admitted to Hanoi University of Science and Technology.

Dat said that the opportunity to join Nvidia started with a LinkedIn profile built in his first year of college. "I saw many people referring to LinkedIn as an online CV, so I started updating my projects, skills, and activities. In September 2023, an invitation from VinBrain suddenly appeared, evaluating my profile for an internship position. I was able to participate in developing AI healthcare product features, solving many practical problems, and learning many valuable things. After the internship, I became an official employee and continued to work there until Nvidia acquired VinBrain," Dat said.

Not only outstanding in his studies, Dat also actively participates in union activities and scientific research. Two scientific articles in which Dat is the main author were published at AAAI and ICASSP - the leading international conferences on AI and audio, speech and signal processing, affirming the talent of the young man.

Dat confided that his scientific research journey was not easy. "The hardest part was when I first started, I was overwhelmed by the amount of new knowledge and skills I needed to learn," Dat said.

According to Dat, everything from reading dozens of pages of academic articles in English to choosing the right research direction is a challenge. However, thanks to the support of teachers and seniors in the group, he has learned how to analyze, propose ideas... better.

When asked about the secret to balancing study, research and work, Dat said he applied a strict time management method. "I set clear goals every day and prioritize work according to the Eisenhower method (classifying tasks according to importance and urgency)," Dat said.

Dat confided that studying, researching and working all revolve around the technology field, helping him make the most of his knowledge and skills. In addition, his daily exercise routine helps him reduce stress and increase productivity. "If the code doesn't work, I go for a run, at least something is still working," Dat said.

For young people who are passionate about technology, Dat emphasizes the importance of curiosity and a spirit of lifelong learning. "Technology changes rapidly, today you are an expert, tomorrow you may be obsolete. Always learn and never stop experimenting. Don't be afraid to try, don't be afraid of making mistakes, as long as you keep moving forward," Dat shared.

Associate Professor Dr. Huynh Thi Thanh Binh, Head of the optimization research group, currently Vice Principal of the School of Information Technology and Communications, Vietnam National University, Hanoi, could not hide her pride when mentioning the excellent student who graduated a semester early with an excellent degree and was awarded by the school.

"I still remember clearly the email from a freshman student asking to join the lab three years ago. I was surprised because he asked to join the lab so early. I told him to listen to the groups and attend weekly lab meetings. After 3 years of participating in the lab, he had an AAAI 2025 paper with the group," Associate Professor Dr. Binh said.

Associate Professor Dr. Binh said that Dat's youth was spent at school from morning to night, actively participating in movement activities. Not stopping there, the young man also worked at Nvidia and conquered the master's program in data science at Hanoi University of Science and Technology, continuing his journey to reach his dream.
