When the results of the 9th grade gifted student exam in Ha Tinh province were announced, many people were impressed with student Tran Anh Minh (grade 7, Le Van Thiem Secondary School). Minh won first prize in Information Technology when competing with students 2 grades older than him.

This is not the first time Anh Minh has participated in a high school exam. Previously, when he was in 5th grade biology class, he won the city and provincial youth informatics awards for middle school students.

Talking about the provincial-level IT exam, the male student said that it was quite difficult for students his age, but he did well. The result he achieved in the contest was 18.3 points, excellently winning first prize.

With the knowledge accumulated in advance, along with the guidance and review from teachers, I entered the exam with confidence and determination to do my best. Minh said that he completed the exam in only half the time.

According to teachers, 7th graders have less experience than 9th graders, not to mention the limited amount of knowledge they have access to, so they will be at a disadvantage in the process of doing the test. According to teachers, Minh must have a very good foundation of knowledge in IT to surpass his 9th graders to win first prize.

The male student shared that since he was a child, he was passionate about Math, then he became very interested in IT and caught on very quickly. The more he studied, the more he found himself passionate about this subject and had his own way of studying.

“Computer Science makes me interested, I can use Scratch language to create games and comics. In addition, Computer Science can help me create calculations to apply in real-life problems,” Minh said.

To supplement his advanced knowledge of this subject, Minh often searches for specialized documents in English. In addition to his teachers, Minh also has the companionship of his father, who is an IT teacher.

"For specialized terms, I have to look them up and ponder over them many times, and for difficult algorithms, I find the most scientific way to solve them. In addition, I prioritize practicing online with information technology resources to deepen my knowledge of this subject," Minh shared.

Besides his passion for Math and IT, Minh admits that he is a bookworm. Whenever he has free time, he reads books, often science books.

Sharing with VietNamNet, Mr. Tran Thanh Kien, Principal of Le Van Thiem Secondary School, said that Minh is an excellent student in Math and Information Technology. He has won many awards and medals in competitions in these two subjects.

"The school was not surprised by the result of winning first prize in the provincial competition for Information Technology. Minh has a solid grasp of the knowledge, is talented and very brave. His superiority was clearly demonstrated when he participated in the advanced level competitions and winning first prize in the provincial competition for excellent students in Information Technology is a wonderful thing," said Mr. Tran Thanh Kien.

With his constant efforts, Tran Anh Minh continuously won prizes at the city-level and provincial-level Youth Informatics competitions in the 2021-2022 and 2022-2023 school years; Gold medal at the TIMO International Mathematical Olympiad; Silver medal at the Singapore & Asian Mathematical Olympiad (SASMO) in the 2023-2024 school year.
