Nguyen Trong Hai graduated a semester early with the best achievement in the School of Information and Communication Technology of Hanoi Polytechnic.
Nguyen Trong Hai, 23 years old, a native of Bac Giang, completed the computer engineering program of the School of Information and Communications Technology one term early with a learning score (CPA) of 3,74/4, a training score of 95/100.
Out of more than 2.200 new engineers and bachelors of Hanoi University of Science and Technology who graduated in May, only 5 students achieved excellent results. 69 students, including Hai, were rewarded by the school for having a CPA of 8 and a training score of 3,6 or higher.
Trong Hai was admitted to university in 2018 with a high school graduation exam score of 26,35. With that score, I can enter any major of Hanoi University of Science and Technology. However, a former math student at Bac Giang High School for the Gifted chose Computer Engineering with a standard score of 23,5.
Hai's selection is based on thorough research on majors in the field of Information Technology. I think that job opportunities are wide open if you follow this industry because you will learn professional knowledge in both hardware and software, and design techniques and optimal integration between the two parts.
Having attended a specialized school with Hai is an advantage because the curriculum is quite heavy, so it is less overwhelming when entering university. However, no matter how hard a male student is in high school, he can't compare to Polytechnic. Hai gives an example of a class in high school with 3 periods, one subject for each class and only one short lesson for each subject, even just practicing what he has learned. At university, a session has 5 periods with two subjects. Each subject lasts three periods, must study half a chapter to a curriculum chapter.
"It's difficult to catch up with teachers in class, let alone understand the lesson in class," Hai said. So when I got home, I had to study again. Hai also planned to study regularly, sticking to the content throughout the process instead of focusing on studying for the exam like high school because the amount of knowledge loaded at the beginning of each session was very large.
In addition, grading teachers are also very strict, according to Hai. The male student said that during the first year Calculus midterm exam, he was very confident when he completed all 10 questions, only wondering about the results of one sentence, so he thought he would get a good score, but the result he received was 6,5.
“The test time is short and the amount of work to be done makes it difficult for me to detect mistakes, only knowing the correct answer is good. Then the return point is disappointing. Pressure That invisible force makes me have to work harder to get the highest score possible," Hai shared.
Once he understood and caught up with the learning in the first year, the following years of majoring were easier for Hai, even though the knowledge was new and more difficult. According to Hai, it is important to practice a lot, find more materials online and self-study because the field of Information Technology changes very quickly, only studying according to the curriculum will not be able to meet.
At the same time, Hai is an active member of the learning support club. Since the second year, Hai has taught lectures and guided the first year students to systematize their knowledge for better study. In the second term of my second year, I was elected as the Vice President of this club.
Participating in the Student Union, Hai used to represent students in dialogue with the school's board of directors, assist students in finding accommodation, set up study groups on Facebook, cultural and sports festivals, and many other volunteer activities.
At the end of the third year, Hai did an internship at FPT Corporation. Here, I have more perspective on the business, understand the working process, standards and requirements related to actual work. In the middle of the fourth year, Hai applied for the position of programmer and was accepted to work at Viettel, although he had not defended the project and did not have a diploma.
Busy with studies, extracurricular activities and working, Hai still completed 68 subjects with 155 credits a semester earlier than prescribed.
To do this, male students in Bac Giang enrolled in many subjects during the first two years of university. Hai said that at that time, despite participating in many social activities, time was not constrained, so it was easy to arrange. I still have time for personal hobbies like playing and watching football.
From the end of the third year onwards, when the number of subjects is not much, I freely practice part-time and work full-time. This helps to improve practical problem-solving skills, from which Hai completed the graduation project with 9,4/10 points.
Ngo Dinh Sang, Hai's classmate, was impressed with your ability to balance study and extracurricular activities. According to Sang, students usually only join a club, along with studying, time is running out. In addition, Sang evaluated Hai as dynamic, sociable, very intelligent and opinionated.
"The entry point is enough to pass the higher majors, but you research carefully and follow the desired industry," Sang said.
According to Hai, having a clear understanding and orientation from high school helped her feel that she was on the right track and found a suitable job. This weekend, Hai will receive an engineering degree from Hanoi University of Science and Technology.
"I still stick with my current job, improve my English to be ready to study for a master's degree if I have the opportunity," Hai shared.
