According to Relevo , in a personal conversation with Diaz, coach Alonso emphasized that Real Madrid's starting lineup in the 2025/26 season will prioritize stars like Vinicius Jr, Kylian Mbappe, Arda Guler, Gonzalo Garcia or Jude Bellingham.

Diaz, despite scoring eight goals and providing five assists in 29 La Liga appearances in 2024/25, mostly from the bench, could not compete for a starting spot in Alonso’s 4-3-3 or 4-2-3-1 formation. Despite Diaz’s decent performances as a substitute, Alonso still left him out.

Another reason why the former Bayer Leverkusen coach does not rate Diaz highly is his speed. The 26-year-old midfielder is considered unsuitable for the fast-changing style of play that coach Alonso applies at Real. The decision of the Spanish captain puts Diaz in a difficult situation when the summer transfer window of 2025 is only 6 weeks away.
