Speaking at the workshop, Permanent Deputy Minister of Culture, Sports and Tourism Le Hai Binh highly appreciated the Academy of Journalism and Communication for organizing an international workshop with a topical topic, right at the time when artificial intelligence (AI) is developing strongly and posing many new issues for the field of journalism and communication.

The workshop is a very important and valuable opportunity for managers, press agencies, and domestic and foreign experts to discuss theoretical and practical bases, share experiences to propose appropriate directions, tasks, and solutions to improve the effectiveness of press and media activities in the context of the strong impact of AI.

According to Permanent Deputy Minister Le Hai Binh, the strong development of AI is profoundly changing the way people access, produce and distribute information. AI offers great potential in optimizing the journalism process, helping newsrooms shorten the time to produce news articles, personalize content to serve readers and improve the efficiency of data analysis to capture public opinion trends.

However, the rapid development of AI also brings great challenges in journalism ethics, information authenticity, increasing forms of misinformation, fake news and cognitive manipulation.

"The increasingly popular appearance of AI-generated content of unknown origin and lacking verification is raising very serious questions about the responsibility of journalists, the role of management agencies, and public awareness of new waves of information," said Permanent Deputy Minister Le Hai Binh.

Permanent Deputy Minister Le Hai Binh emphasized that the Vietnamese Party and State always identify the press as an important force in transmitting official information, orienting public opinion, protecting ideological foundations and preserving national cultural identity.

The Vietnamese government attaches special importance to the role of the press in the period of integration and development, and always creates all conditions for the press to develop and adapt to changes in technology, the media environment and the information needs of society. In recent years, the Vietnamese government has implemented many measures and policies to support the press, including training human resources and investing in infrastructure for press agencies. However, like other countries in the world, investment cannot keep up with the rapid development of technology in general and the impact of technology in the field of press and media in particular. In particular, the rapid and breakthrough development of AI in the press has caused legal regulations, professional standards and press and media management mechanisms to no longer keep up with reality.

Faced with such changes, we must further improve the management of press and media in line with the development of AI. Accordingly, a comprehensive, multidisciplinary, creative, flexible and timely approach is needed. This requires the cooperation of the Government, press agencies and especially training institutions - which contribute to the formation of future generations of journalists.

Permanent Deputy Minister Le Hai Binh stated that, in order to develop a healthy press system and contribute to the country's development, it is necessary to focus on a number of orientations:

Firstly, focus on perfecting the legal framework in the field of press and media, especially regulations related to artificial intelligence.

Second, create conditions and have support policies for press agencies in applying digital technology and especially artificial intelligence.

Third, prioritize improving digital capacity for journalists, building retraining and specialized training programs, and strengthening cooperation with training agencies, research institutes, and technology enterprises.

Speaking at the workshop, Associate Professor, Dr. Duong Trung Y, Deputy Director of the Ho Chi Minh National Academy of Politics, emphasized that the explosive development of artificial intelligence is creating profound and comprehensive changes in all aspects of social life, especially in the field of journalism and communication. The press cannot stand outside the technological trend, mastering AI must be clearly and consistently oriented to effectively serve the cause of building and defending the Fatherland, contributing to improving the effectiveness of policy communication and maintaining the Party's ideological foundation.

In that spirit, Associate Professor, Dr. Duong Trung Y suggested that the Academy of Journalism and Communication conduct a comprehensive assessment of the issues that AI poses to journalism and communication, and then propose strategic solutions to the leaders of the Ho Chi Minh National Academy of Politics, including: updating and innovating training programs to equip learners with the necessary knowledge and skills about AI; promoting research on the impact of AI on journalism and communication activities; and improving the capacity of the teaching staff.

The way information is produced and transmitted is fundamentally changing, thereby posing new challenges for journalists as well as ethical standards in journalism.
