Students from the Southern College of Mechanical Engineering and Agriculture approached businesses to learn about recruitment needs at a job fair.

* Approach and understand recruitment needs

The job fair and business networking event at the Southern College of Mechanical Engineering and Agriculture recently attracted approximately 1,000 students from various training programs. Over 20 businesses participated in direct and outsourced recruitment, with a demand for more than 200 job positions.

To help students confidently apply for jobs, the organizers invited the City Youth Employment Service Center and the City Social Work Center to provide advice and guidance on writing and refining their CVs. At the "Job Search Journey" talk show, representatives from businesses and students frankly exchanged and shared essential information about career guidance, job-seeking skills, job opportunities, "secrets" to making a good impression on recruiters, and what recruiters expect from their employees…

Mr. Nguyen Tan Dat, Deputy Director of Sadico Can Tho Joint Stock Company, said: “Our company specializes in producing and supplying packaging for various industrial and agricultural products, so we need to recruit a diverse range of personnel in technical fields. We are interested in candidates with a strong foundation of knowledge, professional skills, information technology skills, and especially a positive attitude and willingness to take on the job.” Ms. Do Thi Thu Thao, Head of Human Resources at Minh Hung Agricultural Materials Trading and Service Company Limited, emphasized that candidates need to be equipped with foreign language and information technology skills to meet current trends.

According to the Southern College of Mechanical Engineering and Agriculture, through job fairs, the school updates its understanding of business needs and the labor market to develop training plans that align with practical production and new technologies; reducing theory and increasing practical training, integrating specialized knowledge, and educating students on professional skills and attitudes, ensuring that most students are employed immediately without further training. In addition, the school strengthens cooperation between businesses and enterprises, signs dual training agreements, provides scholarships or supports facilities, and commissions training programs; it also effectively organizes internships and field trips for students. This ultimately improves the employment rate of graduates.

With funding from the project, the City Social Work Center coordinated the organization of job fairs and business networking events at 5 colleges in the city, with nearly 12,000 students participating in job searching.

* Meeting labor market trends

Mr. Ho Thanh Hai, Director of the City's Social Work Center, said that the project aims to promote life skills programs for success among Vietnamese youth, enhance their ability to use information technology, meet the needs of the labor market, and increase opportunities for sustainable employment. A prominent activity that the project management board is focusing on is training to improve teaching capacity for lecturers and professional skills for students.

The project management board coordinated the organization of "success skills" training courses and issued certificates to over 15,200 students at vocational education institutions in the city; trained over 3,360 core teachers, lecturers, staff, and students from colleges on "green thinking, green skills, and green jobs"; and held an online competition to introduce the project and assess job needs to students' relatives, with nearly 3,000 participants…

Through this, foundational knowledge and relevant skills are fostered, and the training model is transformed to align with the trend of green economic development. Lecturers proactively integrate this content into teaching, career guidance, and learning support activities, helping students develop comprehensively in professional competence and personal skills; forming positive thinking, skills, and attitudes in career and employment choices…

According to Mr. Ho Thanh Hai, the project has basically completed its planned objectives. Lecturers and students have received training and shared knowledge on soft skills, participating in teaching, learning, and development in an innovative vocational education environment. Businesses have actively participated in career guidance and job placement activities, cooperating with schools in training to meet recruitment needs. This has equipped students with necessary skills, enhanced their proactive approach to businesses, and expanded employment opportunities.

In the coming period, the City's Social Work Center will coordinate with schools to expand soft skills training for students; support and monitor activities promoting green thinking, green skills, and green employment. Simultaneously, it will effectively implement the project "Skills for Success - Enhancing Employment Opportunities for Youth and Students, 2026-2028".
