(QNO) - This afternoon, December 27, Vice Chairman of the Provincial People's Committee Tran Anh Tuan - Head of the Committee for Overseas Vietnamese chaired a conference to review the work of Overseas Vietnamese in 2023 and deploy tasks for 2024.
According to the report of the Provincial Overseas Vietnamese Committee, as of November 21, 2023, the whole province had 1,606 workers working abroad under contracts. During the year, the province issued criminal records for 1,375 cases (an increase of 525 cases compared to the same period in 2022).
Total remittances in 2023 are 25,166 million USD (an increase of more than 4 million USD compared to the same period in 2022). In the province, there are 7 foreign non- governmental organizations founded by overseas Vietnamese that currently have registration certificates to operate and carry out aid activities in the province.
At the conference, delegates discussed difficulties regarding the regulation of "Vietnamese people residing and living permanently abroad". In addition, the awareness of some agencies, units and localities about implementing policies and laws for Vietnamese people abroad is sometimes not really focused on. Activities to attract experts and intellectuals to invest and build the homeland are still limited...
Speaking at the conference, Vice Chairman of the Provincial People's Committee Tran Anh Tuan acknowledged the efforts of the Department of Foreign Affairs - the standing agency and members of the Committee on Overseas Vietnamese in implementing the assigned tasks in 2023.
Regarding the 2024 task, Mr. Tuan said that the province will soon issue regulations on coordination in managing, operating, exploiting, using, and updating information on the software database of overseas Vietnamese in Quang Nam whose relatives are living in the province.
At the same time, it is affirmed that Vietnamese people abroad are an important resource and element contributing to mobilizing strength in building and developing the homeland. Therefore, agencies, units and localities need to raise awareness and take action in implementing policies and laws for Vietnamese people abroad.
In particular, it is necessary to closely follow the tasks according to Plan No. 7868 dated November 28, 2022 of the Provincial People's Committee on overseas Vietnamese affairs to effectively implement them.
