According to the Department of Agriculture and Environment, this year's theme emphasizes the role of community initiatives and local-scale actions in contributing to the achievement of global goals on biodiversity conservation. This is also aligned with the National Strategy on Biodiversity to 2030, with a vision to 2050.
The city's key activities include strengthening communication and education to raise community awareness about the value of biodiversity for sustainable development; integrating nature conservation content into schools, residential areas, and social activities; and encouraging environmentally friendly lifestyles that are in harmony with nature.
Authorities are urged to strengthen inspections and controls on the illegal hunting, trading, transportation, and consumption of wild animals and plants; focusing on protecting areas with high biodiversity value such as nature reserves, sensitive ecological zones, and vulnerable ecosystems.
One notable aspect is the promotion of programs to restore degraded natural ecosystems such as mangrove forests, coral reefs, seagrass beds, and wetlands. The city also calls for enhanced control of invasive alien species, reduction of environmental pollution, and limitation of plastic waste to lessen pressure on natural ecosystems.
In addition, the city continues to strengthen the implementation of Prime Minister 's Directive No. 04/CT-TTg on the protection of wild and migratory birds; while encouraging the participation of the community, businesses, and social organizations in community-based conservation models.
According to the direction of the Ministry of Agriculture and Environment, localities need to promote the application of digital technology, science and technology, and nature-based solutions in biodiversity conservation. Building and updating biodiversity databases; enhancing the capacity for investigation, monitoring, and data sharing to serve state management and scientific research are also considered key tasks in the coming period.
International Biodiversity Day is not only an opportunity to raise social awareness about nature conservation but also calls for a shift from environmental slogans to concrete actions at the local level. In the context of increasingly evident climate change, environmental pollution, and natural resource depletion, protecting biodiversity is becoming an integral part of the sustainable development strategy and resilience of coastal cities like Da Nang.
