The forum attracted the participation of more than 150 delegates representing departments, ministries, branches, institutes, universities, associations, experts, businesses... operating in the energy sector.

This is a really hot issue when Vietnam is facing major challenges in energy security. Energy demand, especially electricity, is forecast to continue to grow at 8-10% per year in the coming years, to meet the economic development goal and become a high-income country by 2045.

Mr. Ta Dinh Thi, Vice Chairman of the National Assembly's Committee on Science , Technology and Environment, spoke at the forum.

Speaking at the forum on energy technology, Mr. Ta Dinh Thi, Vice Chairman of the National Assembly 's Committee on Science, Technology and Environment, affirmed that in the context of Vietnam facing increasing energy demand to serve economic development, and having committed to achieving zero net emissions by 2050, the transition to renewable energy and the application of modern technology is no longer an option but an "inevitable path".

Sharing the same view, Dr. Phan Xuan Dung, Chairman of the Vietnam Union of Science and Technology Associations (VUSTA), highly appreciated the role of science and technology, considering it the “top national policy” and “most important driving force” for socio-economic development in general and in the energy sector in particular. To resolve the great pressures from both sides (growth needs and emission reduction requirements), Mr. Phan Xuan Dung affirmed: “Science and technology are the key to synchronously solving challenges, turning difficulties into new development opportunities”.

The Party and the State have issued many important guidelines and policies in this field, especially Resolution No. 55-NQ/TW of the Politburo on the strategic orientation of national energy development to 2030, with a vision to 2045. Along with that, the National Power Development Plan for the 2021-2030 period, with a vision to 2050 (Power Plan VIII) has been adjusted, setting the goal of strongly developing renewable energy sources (excluding hydropower) for electricity production, reaching a rate of about 28-36% by 2030. The orientation by 2050 is that the renewable energy rate will reach 74-75%.
