According to the decision, Can Tho University remains a public educational institution under the Ministry of Education and Training . Can Tho University will reorganize its structure and operate on the basis of Can Tho University in accordance with the provisions of the Law on Higher Education and relevant laws.
Regarding the organizational structure, Can Tho University consists of 6 member schools: Polytechnic, Information Technology and Communication, Economics , Agriculture, Pedagogy, and Aquaculture. The school also has 10 faculties, 3 research institutes and 1 Pedagogical Practice High School.
Can Tho University has also recently established two branches in Soc Trang and Hau Giang.

In the 2025-2026 school year, Can Tho University plans to enroll 10,060 students, with a total of 109 regular university training programs. Of which, there are 89 general programs, 2 advanced programs, and 13 high-quality programs.
By 2027, the School of Political Science, Social Sciences and Humanities; School of Natural Sciences; School of Environment and Natural Resources will be established.
According to the rankings announced by Quacquarelli Symonds (QS) in December 2024, Can Tho University is in the top 10 leading universities in Vietnam and belongs to group 1,061-1,080 in the rankings of the world's most sustainable universities in 2025.
