How much should you spend on a robot vacuum cleaner?

With over 10 million, users can buy a robot vacuum cleaner with full basic functions. This is also the segment where companies focus on many features to reach new customers.

Robot vacuum cleaners are becoming smart household appliances chosen by many users. This product helps the apartment to be swept and mopped regularly, especially suitable for apartments and one-story houses.

In the Vietnamese market, data from manufacturers also shows that the market is making significant progress. Sharing in early March, the regional manager of the Ecovacs brand said that revenue increased several times by 2024, and the goal for 2025 is still to double sales.

The boom in robot vacuum cleaners is partly due to the speed of technology application. If 3 years ago, robot charging stations, automatic bagging, automatic washing and drying of cloths were features only available on high-end robots, priced at approximately 30 million, now with just under 15 million, users can also have options with similar functions.

The “full-featured” segment makes it easier for users

By 2025, in addition to vacuuming and mopping, which are already popular, robot vacuum cleaners in the 10-15 million price range will also have a high level of "automation" to reduce work for users. Specifically, the robot needs a processing station to suck trash into a large bag after each cleaning, a clean and dirty water tank to refill water, wash the rag after cleaning, and have an additional hot air dryer to dry the rag, avoiding odors.

Thus, after the setup and mapping step, users can set the robot to run daily and do not need to worry about dumping trash in the robot compartment or washing the cloth after each run. The homeowner only needs to change the clean and dirty water after about 3-4 days, and change the trash bag after about 3 months, making it much easier for users.

At this price range, users also have many options. Ecovacs Deebot N30 Pro Omni, with a listed price of 11.9 million, has many notable parameters such as a maximum vacuum force of 10,000 Pa, a rotating mop pad, automatic hot water cleaning of the mop, a function to extend the brush to clean close to the wall, and hot air drying.

In addition, this product also has some features previously included by the company on higher-end models, such as an anti-tangle hair brush, or Vietnamese notifications of robot statuses and problems, making it easier for the elderly and those with no experience using technology products to access.

In this segment, Roborock also has the Q Revo model (10.9 million), launched in 2023. The product also has enough automatic features, basic vacuuming and mopping, automatically sucking trash into a large bag and washing and drying the cloth. The advantage of this product is also the trash bag and large water tank capacity. However, due to being launched a long time ago, some parameters of the Q Revo model are inferior to newer models such as the suction power of 5,500 Pa, or the inability to spread the cloth to clean the corners more cleanly.

What do users get for paying more?

At higher price points, robots often incorporate new technological advances, from vacuuming, mopping to navigation.

Since late 2023, companies have been racing to reduce the top-facing LiDAR cluster. Ecovacs has introduced a 3D positioning cluster, integrated into the body, then Roborock has also introduced a “retractable” positioning cluster, which can be retracted into the body when needed.

Removing the directional cluster helps reduce the overall height of the robot, allowing the product to easily get into places like under beds and cabinets to clean. Currently, the thinnest model is the Ecovacs Deebot T50 Pro (VND 17.9 million) with a height of 8.1 cm, while the Dreame X50 Ultra (VND 28.5 million) has a height of 8.9 cm when the directional cluster is retracted into the body.

In the high-end segment, Dreame X50 Ultra also has special features such as mechanical legs to lift the robot, helping the product go over ledges up to 6 cm high. Roborock also has a similar solution with the Saros 10 model, but the overcoming height is 4 cm.

Mid-range and high-end robots are often equipped with additional cameras to increase the ability to recognize and avoid objects. This camera can also be used for monitoring functions, even sending notifications to people at home.

With the vacuuming feature, high-end models often have a large suction force of over 10,000 Pa, helping the robot to suck up medium-sized trash better. In addition, manufacturers are also looking to improve the cleaning ability. At the end of 2024, Ecovacs introduced a mop-like roller into the X8 Pro model. This design helps increase the floor cleaning pressure, along with the roller cleaning system on the move, which can significantly increase the cleaning efficiency of the robot. The floor cleaning roller may be included in mid-range models in the near future.

To own more advanced features, users will have to spend from 20 million for high-end mid-range models, to nearly 30 million for the company's top models. This is a number for those who can afford it, or have enough technology experience to know what features they need.

For most users, product lines in the 15 million price range have the highest value. Manufacturers consider this the main segment, bringing features that have been integrated in mid-range and high-end lines to reach new users. At lower prices, robots do not have enough automatic features, users still have to clean a lot.
