Should I choose a single or double sink?

Báo Dân tríBáo Dân trí20/12/2023

On a closed group for people who love kitchens and home decoration, the topic of "should I use a double or single sink" caused a lot of debate.

Just a few minutes after posting, this post received nearly 500 comments with mixed opinions. So what are the advantages and disadvantages of double and single sinks?

1. Double sink

The type of sink that was popular in previous years. Double sink is a sink with two basins in one basin, separated by a partition.

Traditionally, these two sinks were of equal size. However, many manufacturers now design two sinks of different sizes, with the secondary sink usually being half the size of the main sink.

A double sink is considered a suitable suggestion for those who often wash dishes by hand. If you often use a dishwasher, at the double sink, you can add a rack for spoons, forks, cups, and bowls.

The biggest benefit of a double sink is that you can completely separate clean and dirty dishes on two sides. One side is used to soak used items, while the other side is still comfortable for preparing vegetables.

Typically, the waste receptacle will be located on one side of the sink, usually the smaller side. This way, you can control this waste and still have a clean part of the sink for other things.

Besides the benefits, double sinks are no longer popular today because of their large size, bulkiness, and space-consuming kitchen counter. For small kitchens, using double sinks is not suitable because it takes up too much space.

In addition, double sinks are quite limited if used to wash large items such as pans, large pots, and large pots.

2. Single bowl sink

In recent years, many people have preferred to use single sinks and believe that this type of sink has many advantages over double sinks.

Single bowl sinks are suitable for small kitchens that need to save space. The next advantage of a single bowl sink is that it helps users easily clean large items such as air fryers, pans, baking trays... because there are no partitions.

If your family has a dishwasher, a single sink is a suitable place to soak dirty dishes, helping the kitchen become tidier.

However, single sinks also have many limitations. For families who often use the sink to do many things at the same time such as washing dishes, washing vegetables, single sinks will not meet the needs.

In addition, if the single sink is full of water and clean items, you will have difficulty removing the waste because it will make the items in the sink unsanitary.

Therefore, single or double sinks have their own advantages and disadvantages. According to most architects, choose a single or double sink based on the needs and personality of the homeowner.

Consulting on groups is necessary. However, not all families have the same purpose of use, so opinions on groups should only be used for reference.
