Over the past period, the work of caring for people who have rendered meritorious services to the revolution and their families has been carried out by Party committees and authorities at all levels in the province with many effective and practical activities. This demonstrates the principle of "drinking water, remembering the source," and partially repays the immense contributions of those who have rendered meritorious services and their families to the cause of national liberation.
During the resistance wars, tens of thousands of outstanding sons and daughters of Hung Yen province went to fight and serve in the war effort. At the end of the war, the province had over 75,000 martyrs, along with tens of thousands of wounded soldiers, sick soldiers, and resistance fighters exposed to chemical toxins. Mr. Pham Dinh Tung, Deputy Director of the Department of Internal Affairs, stated: Upholding the principle of "Drinking water, remembering the source," over the years, the Party Committee, government, and people of the province have wholeheartedly cared for the material and spiritual lives of wounded soldiers, sick soldiers, families of martyrs, and those who have contributed to the revolution. With affection, responsibility, and gratitude for the contributions of previous generations, Hung Yen province consistently performs well in the "Paying Gratitude" movement with many rich and meaningful activities such as launching a movement to care for and support Vietnamese Heroic Mothers; caring for the relatives of martyrs. Along with that, the province mobilizes resources to build and repair houses for families of those who have contributed; searching for and collecting the remains of martyrs; Renovating, upgrading, and maintaining memorials to fallen soldiers; organizing visits, offering encouragement, and giving gifts to meritorious individuals and families of fallen soldiers on holidays and festivals...
Mr. Bui Van Quyet, Deputy Head of the Department of Meritorious Persons, Department of Internal Affairs, shared: Currently, the Department is providing regular preferential allowances to over 75,000 people and their relatives who have rendered meritorious services to the revolution. Every Lunar New Year and on the anniversary of War Invalids and Martyrs' Day, the province organizes visits and presents gifts from the President, the province, and agencies and organizations to meritorious persons and their relatives. In coordination with other sectors, the Department implements the socialization of care for meritorious persons and their families; visits, gift-giving, giving savings accounts as tokens of gratitude, and support for housing improvements. The Department of Internal Affairs has implemented convalescence programs; support for assistive devices and orthopedic equipment; preferential education and training programs; and programs for commemorating martyrs for tens of thousands of meritorious persons and their relatives.
To honor the fallen heroes, the province annually organizes delegations to offer incense and pay respects at martyrs' cemeteries in Ha Tinh, Quang Tri, Dien Bien , and Tuyen Quang provinces; provincial leaders and leaders of communes and wards organize visits, gift-giving, and encouragement to a number of policy beneficiary families in the province; and organize memorial services and candle-lighting ceremonies at martyrs' cemeteries and memorials on July 27th. At the same time, outstanding individuals are selected to attend the national conference of outstanding individuals. The province pays close attention to the maintenance and renovation of memorials. Currently, the province has 332 memorials. These structures are mostly built with durable, sturdy materials, becoming increasingly more spacious, clean, and beautiful, transforming into cultural and spiritual landmarks that express the gratitude of today's generation to the heroes who sacrificed for the Fatherland.
According to Ms. Dang Ngoc Hanh, Head of the Department of Meritorious Persons, Department of Internal Affairs: One of the meaningful activities is building new and repairing houses of gratitude for families of meritorious persons and martyrs. At the end of 2024, responding to the nationwide call to eliminate temporary and dilapidated houses launched by the Prime Minister, Hung Yen province joined forces with high political determination to bring a better life to families of meritorious persons and martyrs. With great effort and high determination, Hung Yen province quickly completed the elimination of temporary and dilapidated houses for meritorious persons and martyrs, with a total of 1,529 houses built and repaired. Sharing the joy of settling into a new home, Mr. Nguyen Manh Dang, from Tien Hai commune, said: "I am receiving a subsidy for a resistance fighter exposed to chemical toxins. Due to poor health, I have been unable to do heavy work for many years, and my economic situation is difficult." The old, dilapidated house was built a long time ago and is in serious disrepair. I am very happy and excited that the province has provided financial support for me to have a new, sturdy and safe place to live. The new house has an area of over 50 square meters with a solid foundation, sturdy walls, and a sturdy roof, which will give my family peace of mind.
It can be said that the implementation of preferential policies for those who have rendered meritorious services to the revolution and their families has yielded good results. Those who have rendered meritorious services are increasingly receiving better care both materially and spiritually, and their living standards have improved significantly. "Showing gratitude and repaying kindness" has become a beautiful aspect of cultural life, contributing significantly to consolidating and strengthening national unity, enhancing patriotism and social responsibility, and fostering and nurturing the values of compassion in each citizen in recognition of the contributions and sacrifices of those who have rendered meritorious services to the revolution.
