The gentleness of Vietnamese women in Tran Huu Dung's paintings

HANOI - Artist Tran Huu Dung draws Vietnamese girls in ao dai going to festivals and strolling in the garden on a spring day.

The painting Under the Royal Poinciana Tree was created by artist Tran Huu Dung using acrylic on canvas, depicting girls wearing colorful ao dai standing under a large royal poinciana tree.

The work is part of the exhibition Brilliant Spring Garden by Tran Huu Dung, taking place from April 20 to 27 at 146 Giang Vo, Ba Dinh ( Hanoi ). The 54-year-old artist, a former student of the Hanoi University of Industrial Fine Arts, held two solo exhibitions in 2007 and 2014.

Painting By Hoan Kiem Lake, size 80x85 cm. The work impresses with its striking colors such as the red of The Huc bridge, the pink, orange, and yellow of the women's ao dai. Each girl has a different appearance, as if dancing by the lake.

Tran Huu Dung said that among the 20 works on display at the exhibition, there are some that he painted 10 years ago. The artist loves to paint ao dai, "fascinated by the beauty of young girls with graceful ao dai fluttering in the golden autumn".

The artist said he created his works in a triangular style. During the sketching process, he gradually created the shapes of the girls. In each drawing, Tran Huu Dung deeply researched the composition and movement to create a lively scene for the painting.

The painting "Brilliant Festival", size 100x120 cm, depicts the festival scene of girls.

Along with the paintings with a large number of characters, Tran Huu Dung displayed many portraits of women. Most of them sit alone among trees and flowers. In the picture is the work "Scent of Lotus", depicting a girl in a white ao dai, surrounded by pink lotus flowers.

Painter Tran Huu Dung uses a multi-layer technique to create a color effect that spans a vast space. He hopes that through his works, viewers can better understand the beauty of the East.
