According to the source, the reception took place on November 28 at the Admiralty Shipyard in Saint Petersburg, with a flag-raising ceremony on the Project 636 ship Mozhaysk.
"On November 28, 2023, the ceremony of raising the flag of the Navy of the Russian Federation on the large diesel-electric submarine Mozhaysk of Project 636 took place at the Admiralty Shipyard," the statement from the plant said.
Mozhaysk, built at the Admiralty Shipyard in Saint Petersburg, is the fifth of six Project 636 submarines for the Pacific Fleet. It was launched last April.
The Admiralty Shipyard is currently continuing construction of the sixth submarine, the Yakutsk, which is also part of the project. The Mozhaysk and Yakutsk were ordered to be built together in August 2021.
The third-generation submarines of this project are large diesel-electric cruisers. The ships have a displacement of about 3,950 tons, can dive to a depth of more than 300m and move at a speed of about 33km/h, operating continuously at sea for 45 days with a maximum crew of 52 people.
Project 636 submarines are equipped with the most modern inertial navigation systems, advanced automated control and communication systems, and weapons systems including high-precision missiles and powerful torpedoes. These ships are equipped with 533mm torpedoes, mines and Kalibr attack missile systems. They can detect targets at a distance 3-4 times greater than the distance at which the opponent can detect them.
According to reports, because of their stealth capabilities, the Russian submarines of this project were nicknamed "Black Holes" of the ocean by NATO.
