According to Russian media reports, Russian Deputy Foreign Minister Mikhail Bogdanov said during his visit to Syria on January 28 that Russia is ready to strengthen relations with Syria and support the country's reconstruction.
Bogdanov led a high-level Russian delegation to meet with Syria’s de facto leader, Ahmed al-Sharaa, and other senior Syrian officials. Bogdanov told RT that the meeting was “constructive and positive,” with both sides stressing the “historic” and “unbroken” bilateral friendship.
Mr. Bogdanov, who is also Russian President Vladimir Putin's Special Envoy for the Middle East and Africa, said the two sides pledged to strengthen ties in many areas, including infrastructure construction, electricity, oil and gas, agriculture , fertilizers and railways.
Mr Bogdanov dispelled concerns about Russian facilities in Tartous and Hmeimim in northwestern Syria, insisting they were not affected by recent political changes in Syria.
