Russian troops have breached Ukrainian defenses and launched a new offensive on the city of Chasov Yar in the self-proclaimed Donetsk People's Republic.

According to SF, in recent days, Russian assault groups have carried out several successful attacks. As a result, they have breached Ukraine's main defense line along the Seversky Donets-Donbass canal and entered the city of Chasov Yar. Russian forces have gained control of the eastern streets of the Oktyabrsky district.

The attack was carried out by forces of the 11th and 98th Airborne Divisions of the Russian Armed Forces. They advanced approximately 250 meters into Ukrainian lines.

According to unconfirmed reports, Russian forces used several tunnels to attack the defenses of the Ukrainian Armed Forces. Previously, Russian troops had also carried out similar attacks on Ukrainian rear areas through tunnels in Avdeevka and Toresk.

The new offensive became more feasible after Russian troops gained complete control of the eastern Kanal district and expanded their control along the entire eastern bank of the Seversky Donetsk-Donbass canal in recent weeks.

The water level in this canal is not high, but armored vehicles still find it very difficult to cross without pontoon bridges. The Ukrainian army has also heavily mined the area and built fortified positions along the canal.

Currently, Russian assault units have also launched new attacks in the Novy district. The commander of the Russian Armed Forces likely wants to hold off the Ukrainian garrison in the fighting and force the enemy to withdraw units from the outer defensive lines into the city streets. The main part of the Ukrainian garrison is likely to retreat to the Chasov Yar industrial area in the coming days.

On the outskirts of the city, Russian troops are expanding their control in the Kalinovka area. At the same time, Ukraine is concentrating forces east of the city and intensifying attacks to gain control of key high ground, as losing these points would further complicate the situation for the garrison in that direction.

Russian forces tighten the encirclement, leaving Ukrainian forces in a difficult situation.

On July 31, AVP reported that assault units of the 132nd Motorized Rifle Brigade (Russia) continued their advance and were ready to tighten the encirclement of Ukrainian forces in New York. The Russian units only needed to overcome 2,150 meters to complete the encirclement. Inside the encirclement were at least 15 fortified units, as well as an infantry battalion of the Ukrainian Armed Forces.

However, the Russian army will also face significant obstacles in completing the plan. The 4,300-meter stretch of road between the villages of Yuzhny and Zelenaya Balka contains several strategic positions still under the control of the Ukrainian Armed Forces. These positions include: a position at an altitude of 169 meters north of the clay mine, the Zheleznaya riverbed, the settling basin of the Dzerzhinsk Central Processing Plant, and a position at an altitude of 40 meters in the Dzerzhinsk landfill area. All of these positions are equipped with a dense series of fortifications, from which the Ukrainian Armed Forces launch anti-tank missiles and machine gun crews fire continuously.
