(CLO) An armed group attempted to cross Russia's western border in the Bryansk Region but was destroyed, the region's Governor Alexander Bogomaz said on Sunday (October 27).

"The forces of the Border Guard Service of the Russian Security Service in the Bryansk Region, units of the Russian army and the National Guard prevented an attempt to cross the border by an armed group," he wrote on his Telegram channel, adding that "the enemy was destroyed."

Mr. Bogomaz added that the current situation in the region remains stable and is fully controlled by the operational command of the Bryansk Region.

The area borders Kursk Oblast, which Ukraine launched a surprise attack on August 6 – the largest incursion into Russia since World War II. Two groups have claimed responsibility for previous incursions into Russia’s Belgorod and Bryansk Oblasts: the Russian Volunteer Corps and the Russian Free Corps.

On the other side of the front line, Ukraine said a Russian shelling killed three people in Kherson, southern Ukraine, on Sunday, local Governor Oleksandr Prokudin said.

Air raid sirens also sounded for more than three hours in Kiev on Sunday night, and the city government later reported that “about 10” drones had been shot down. The Ukrainian air force reported on Sunday that it had shot down 41 drones launched by Russia over Ukrainian territory.
