Vietnam Association of Photographic Artists celebrates 60 years of establishment and development

(CLO) On the afternoon of December 5 in Hanoi, the Vietnam Association of Photographic Artists held a ceremony to celebrate the 60th anniversary of the Association's founding (December 8, 1965 - December 8, 2025).

At the 1st Congress in 1965, with 71 delegates attending, the Congress unanimously agreed to establish the "Vietnam Association of Photographic Artists", marking the birth of a political - social - professional organization representing the Vietnamese photography community.

After 60 years of establishment and development, from 71 initial members, to date, the Vietnam Association of Photographic Artists has more than 1,000 members in 63 provinces and cities. Members are journalists, photojournalists, cultural officials, professional creators, freelance artists... coming from many different fields but sharing the same love and enthusiasm for the art of photography. The continuous growth of the artist-member team affirms the appeal of photography and the effectiveness of the leadership and management of the Association throughout the 6-decade journey.

Speaking at the ceremony, Ms. Tran Thi Thu Dong - Vice President of the Vietnam Union of Literature and Arts Associations, President of the Vietnam Association of Photographic Artists said that entering a new phase, along with the development of the country and international integration, photographers have more opportunities and conditions to pursue their passion. There are more art playgrounds, more photography enthusiasts, larger scale and higher professionalism.

“ Photography must truthfully reflect the lives of people in labor, in building and defending the Fatherland, and in international integration; must carry the breath of social life, contain profound humanistic values, and be responsible to the public, society and country, ” Ms. Tran Thi Thu Dong emphasized.

Gold Medals for Excellence in Photography were awarded to the two best authors.

Over the long journey, Vietnamese photography has made strong and comprehensive progress. With its core role, the Vietnam Association of Photographic Artists always strives to innovate content, improve the quality of professional activities, organize diverse and rich creative playgrounds, and at the same time promote training, foster talent, expand international exchanges and integration. The achievements have contributed to affirming the position and role of photography in the country's cultural and social life, as well as the creative talent of Vietnamese artists.

With the determination of solidarity, creativity and responsibility, the Vietnam Association of Photographic Artists continues to promote tradition, build an increasingly strong and professional organization, improve the quality of creation, publish many works of value in ideology, content and art; contribute worthily to the cause of building and defending the Fatherland, while meeting the increasing demand for art enjoyment of the public.

This year, the Vietnam Association of Photographic Artists received 273 works from 179 authors submitted for consideration for the 2025 Outstanding Photography Award. The submitted works include single photos, photo series, photo books and works of photography theory and criticism. With 20 best award-winning photo works, including: 2 Gold Medals, 4 Silver Medals, 14 Bronze Medals.

At the ceremony, the Vietnam Association of Photographic Artists also awarded the 2025 Outstanding Photography Award to the winners. This is the highest award of the year of the Association, aiming to find photographic works, works of photography criticism theory and photo books with good artistic quality and content. From there, the best works are selected to award the Gold, Silver and Bronze Medals of the year.
