The US Defense Security Cooperation Agency (DSCA) said: “The US Department of State has approved a potential FMS sale to the Government of Canada for air strike weapons and related equipment...”. The two prime contractors designated for this deal are Boeing Co and RTX Corp, both based in Arlington, Virginia.

The proposed weapons package is significant in scale, including thousands of units with various types of bombs and modern guidance kits. Specifically, Canada requests a maximum of 5,332 small GBU-39 and GBU-53 bombs, 3,414 BLU-111 general-purpose bombs, 220 large BLU-117 bombs, and thousands of JDAM guidance kits (KMU-572, KMU-556, KMU-557).

In addition, the contract also includes practice bombs, penetrating warheads, along with many detonator systems, target detection devices, software, spare parts and comprehensive technical and logistical support services from the US side.

After being approved by the US State Department, DSCA has completed the notification procedure to the US Congress for consideration. Regarding the offset clause – a common part of large defense contracts, the US side said it has not received any specific proposals. If there is any, these agreements will be negotiated directly by Canada and the contractors.
