On June 29, the Russian Defense Ministry announced that two Ukrainian generals, 50 officers, and 20 mercenaries and military advisers were killed when Russia attacked Kiev's force deployment site in Kramatorsk.
“According to updated information, on June 27, an attack was carried out on the temporary deployment site of the 56th Motorized Infantry Brigade of the Ukrainian Army in the city of Kramatorsk. The attack resulted in the deaths of two generals, 50 officers of the Ukrainian Armed Forces, 20 foreign mercenaries and advisers,” Russian Defense Ministry spokesman Lieutenant General Igor Konashenkov said in a statement.
Lieutenant General Igor Konashenkov added that Kiev forces continued to make efforts to advance in three regions of Donetsk, Krasny Liman and southern Donetsk in the past 24 hours.
In the direction of Kupyansk, Russian airstrikes and artillery killed 25 Ukrainian soldiers and destroyed some military equipment.
“In the direction of Kupyansk, aircraft and operational/tactical artillery and ground forces of the Western battle group attacked Ukrainian troops in the areas near the settlements of Sinkovka and Krasnoye Pervoye in the Kharkiv region. More than 25 Ukrainian servicemen were killed and three vehicles, an Akatsiya self-propelled artillery system, a D-30 howitzer and a Grad rocket launcher were destroyed,” the spokesman said.
Meanwhile, in the direction of Krasny Liman, Russian forces engaged in fierce clashes with the Ukrainian army. “In the direction of Krasny Liman, the forces of the Central Group carried out air strikes, artillery shelling and heavy flamethrower fire. The attack inflicted damage on units of the 21st, 42nd and 67th mechanized brigades of the Ukrainian army near Nevskoye, Kremennaya and Chervonaya Dibrova in the self-proclaimed Lugansk People’s Republic. Near the settlement of Kuzmino in the self-proclaimed Lugansk People’s Republic, the activities of a Ukrainian reconnaissance group were also stopped,” Konashenkov said.
According to the spokesman, 65 Ukrainian soldiers, 2 armored fighting vehicles, 2 pickup trucks, 2 D-30 guns and 2 Gvozdika self-propelled artillery systems were neutralized in this direction.
The released images show that the fighting on the ground is very fierce.
In the Donetsk direction, Mr. Konashenkov revealed that Russian forces had killed and wounded 530 Ukrainian soldiers in recent days.
“In the Donetsk direction, four Ukrainian attacks were successfully repelled thanks to the courageous actions of units from the southern battle group near the settlement of Belogorovka in the Lugansk People’s Republic and Tonenkoye in the Donetsk People’s Republic. The casualties of the Ukrainian army in the area during the battles amounted to 530 people killed and wounded,” the spokesman said.
Russian forces also destroyed a Ukrainian tank, two infantry fighting vehicles, five motor vehicles, Msta-B and D-20 howitzers, General Igor Konashenkov added.
“In addition, an ammunition depot of the 54th mechanized brigade of the Ukrainian army was destroyed near the Viyemka settlement in the (self-proclaimed) Donetsk People's Republic,” Konashenkov said.
Overall, Kiev forces are still struggling to make new gains on the ground. According to SF , the few gains Kiev has made in the first weeks of the so-called spring counteroffensive do not correspond to the heavy human and material losses its forces are suffering.
