During the seaweed season, Nhon Hai beach (Binh Dinh) seems to put on a new, fairytale-like coat, captivating tourists and making them reluctant to leave.

For a long time, Nhon Hai has been known as one of the most beautiful coastal areas near the center of Binh Dinh province. Its scenery, marine ecosystem, people, and cuisine all leave a lasting impression on visitors. (Photo: Dang Van Hai)

Every year, from May to July, the seaweed season in Nhon Hai awakens after a long period of dormancy. This is arguably the most beautiful and peak season of the year in the area. As the tide recedes, seaweed begins to emerge from the water, dyeing a large area of the sea yellow. Various types of coral, fish, and squid also flock here to feed and reproduce.

During the seaweed season, the sea surface of Nhon Hai fishing village, stretching from the Upper Cliff (Hai Bac hamlet) to Hon Kho Island (Hai Dong hamlet) and the Lower Cliff (Hai Nam hamlet), is a clear blue interspersed with the yellowish-brown color of seaweed clumps rising to the water's surface and swaying with the current. Sit on a small boat or canoe and gently paddle across the sea to appreciate this beautiful natural landscape.

Boasting an incredibly diverse underwater ecosystem and a dense coral reef, Nhon Hai beach is stunningly beautiful and attracts many tourists. During the seaweed season at Hon Kho, countless species of fish, squid, shrimp, jellyfish, etc., gather to take refuge . Along with the well-preserved coral reefs, these are what enchant visitors. Clusters of colorful corals peek out from amidst the swaying seaweed fields in the seawater, creating a truly magical scene.

Visitors to this area can enjoy not only the fresh air and pristine beauty but also participate in various water sports such as SUP paddling and banana boat rides, immersing themselves in the cool blue water and admiring the swaying seaweed, creating a majestic and poetic scene.

What makes Nhơn Hải special is a series of ancient Champa ramparts built underwater, which local fishermen call the "Bờ Đập" (Damage Wall), only emerging above the sea surface when the tide recedes. Each month, for only a few days – the first few days of the lunar month and the full moon – the ramparts are fully visible. Depending on the season and the tides, the ramparts emerge from the sea in the morning or afternoon. In summer, when the tide is low in the afternoon, it's the ideal time to explore these Champa ramparts.

To protect and maintain the marine ecosystem, the commune's coral reef protection team actively implements many activities to protect the marine environment, such as: demarcating areas, cleaning the seabed, raising awareness among the local community, and guiding tourists in recreational activities to preserve the natural beauty and diversity of marine life.

Exploring the seaweed season in Nhon Hai not only provides relaxation and enjoyment but also offers visitors a chance to learn more about the life and culture of the local fishing village.
