Ancient Gothic architecture in the heart of Binh Dinh

Located in Tuy Phuoc district, Binh Dinh province, Lang Song Minor Seminary is a destination that surprises many visitors with its unique Gothic architectural beauty, seemingly out of place in the Vietnamese countryside. Built in the 19th century, the building has the characteristics of European architecture with pointed arches, symmetrical windows and sophisticated decorative motifs. The moss-covered walls and the quiet space of the green-shaded campus create a quiet, peaceful atmosphere.

Despite the ups and downs of history and the impact of time, the original architectural features are still well preserved. Walking in the long corridors with high arches, visitors can feel a part of the history and the atmosphere of study of many generations who have been attached to this place.

The cradle of Vietnamese script

Not only is it a beautiful architectural work, Lang Song Minor Seminary also holds a particularly important position in the cultural history of Vietnam. This is considered one of the first places where Western missionaries came to preach and is a place closely associated with the formation and development of the national language.

In particular, Lang Song printing house, one of the first printing houses in Dang Trong, was established here. The birth of this printing house marked a turning point in the dissemination of Quoc Ngu script, contributing significantly to the Latinization of Vietnamese writing, creating the foundation for the writing system commonly used today.

Enduring vitality through storms

The minor seminary is also a witness to history, having experienced many events, including the devastation of natural disasters. Storm No. 13 caused severe damage, breaking a series of ancient black star trees over 130 years old in the campus and damaging part of the tiled roof.

The ancient black star trees could not withstand the strong winds of storm number 13.

However, despite the devastation, the main structure still stands, demonstrating the enduring vitality of a heritage site that is more than two centuries old. The image of fallen trees next to an ancient architectural work further highlights the value and resilience of this relic against the test of time and nature.
