"In my new work, I want to prove that Vietnamese, in addition to being a tool for communication, is a cultural treasure, a stream of history and national spirit. The work is the crystallization of respect and intense love for the language of our ancestors and the nation," writer Hoang Minh Tuong shared.

The historical novel Letters and People, 400 Years… is a sacred story about the Vietnamese language and the formation of the national script. He takes readers back in time to Dang Trong in the 17th century. The main character, Portuguese priest Francisco de Pina, was fascinated by the beauty of the Vietnamese language as soon as he set foot in Dai Chiem (Hoi An). He recognized its pure beauty and expressiveness and began the work of transcribing Vietnamese using Latin characters…
The book also shows the emotional connection between people from two different cultures. That is the relationship between Pina and his intelligent student Bento Thien, his Vietnamese language teacher.
Reading Letters and People, 400 Years... we realize that each stroke of the letter, each punctuation mark carries within it the breath of Vietnamese history.
