At noon on January 17 (local time), on the occasion of attending the 54th Annual Meeting of the World Economic Forum in 2024 in Davos (Switzerland) , Prime Minister Pham Minh Chinh received the leader of Skandinaviska Enskilda Banken Group (SEB - Sweden), according to the Government Electronic Information Portal.
SEB is a group operating in the financial and banking sector, including SEB Bank, the largest bank in the Nordic region by market capitalization with total assets reaching nearly 339 billion USD.
Mr. Marcus Wallenberg - Chairman of the Board of Directors of SEB Group - and his colleagues expressed their admiration and deep impression of Vietnam's integration process, socio-economic development achievements in recent times, and Vietnam's role in the region and the world .
Affirming that Vietnam is a very important destination, he expressed his desire to cooperate and invest in Vietnam. In the immediate future, he will organize a Nordic Business Conference in Hanoi, and work specifically with Vietnamese ministries and branches to continue exploring investment cooperation opportunities in Vietnam.
He said that in this annual activity organized by SEB in other countries, there are usually about 70-80 Nordic businesses participating. This year, when the event was held in Vietnam, more than 100 businesses have registered to participate, showing the great attraction of Vietnam and the interest of businesses in Vietnam.
Also attending the meeting, Mr. Ingvar Carlsson - former Prime Minister of Sweden, the first Swedish Prime Minister to visit Vietnam in the 1990s, who is currently advising SEB - said he wishes to contribute to promoting and creating new steps in economic, trade and investment cooperation between the two countries.
Prime Minister Pham Minh Chinh highly appreciated the results achieved by the Group in recent times and welcomed the Group's development plan in Vietnam, suggesting that SEB participate in the Vietnamese financial market in the coming time, on the basis of the very good Vietnam - Sweden relationship.
Welcoming SEB to organize the Nordic Business Conference in Vietnam, the Prime Minister suggested that SEB coordinate with the Ministry of Planning and Investment to organize investment promotion on the occasion of this conference to connect Vietnamese and Nordic businesses and localities, especially in the fields of green transformation, digital transformation, circular economy development, energy transformation, etc.
The Prime Minister also suggested that SEB could consider organizing the event at locations such as world heritage sites (Trang An, Ha Long, etc.) or the Vietnam National Innovation Center, while connecting Swedish and Nordic businesses to strengthen cooperation with the center, as well as promoting cooperation in science, technology, and innovation with Vietnamese partners.
