Traffic police set up a checkpoint to check alcohol concentration on Hung Vuong Street, Luong Van Tri Ward.
In early July, amid the blazing sun of summer days interspersed with showers, on Hung Vuong Street, Luong Van Tri Ward, the image of traffic police officers on duty to control alcohol concentration became familiar to local residents.
From June 15 to now, Road Traffic Control Patrol Team No. 1, Team 4, Traffic Police Department in charge of 4 wards in the province has organized patrols and controls, focusing on handling traffic violations related to alcohol and drug concentrations. Lieutenant Hoang Duc Tien, officer of Road Traffic Control Patrol Team No. 1, Team 4 said: Although the peak period has ended, the work of ensuring traffic safety and order is still maintained. On the evening of July 1, the patrol and control working group conducted a checkpoint at a point on Hung Vuong Street, Luong Van Tri Ward. At the checkpoint, 4 cases of traffic safety and order violations were detected and handled, including 1 case of alcohol concentration violation.
At the same time, the traffic police force also actively propagates and disseminates traffic safety laws. At checkpoints, in addition to handling violations, the soldiers also distribute leaflets with instructions on the new penalty levels according to Decree 168/2024/ND-CP of the Government regulating administrative penalties for violations of traffic safety order in the field of road traffic.
Mr. Nguyen Nhu Thang in Cua Nam block, Luong Van Tri ward shared: For nearly a month now, traffic police have been regularly setting up checkpoints to check alcohol levels on Hung Vuong street. Along with checking alcohol levels, we were also given leaflets about traffic safety penalties according to new regulations. I know that violations of alcohol levels have increased the penalties very high, including motorbikes and cars. Seeing traffic police working regularly, people's awareness is also more self-aware. I myself comply very seriously, when I drink alcohol, I do not drive.
According to data from the Traffic Police Department, Provincial Police, after more than two months of implementing the peak period, from April 5 to June 14, 2025, the functional forces mobilized 12,225 officers and soldiers to conduct 2,953 patrols. As a result, 29,911 vehicles were inspected, 4,564 violations were detected and handled, 1,264 vehicles were temporarily detained with an estimated fine of 11.5 billion VND. Of the detected violations, nearly 1,000 were alcohol violations and 4 were positive for drugs. Compared to the previous two consecutive months, the number of violations decreased significantly. Specifically, alcohol violations decreased by more than 680 cases (from 1,680 to 988 cases), and drug-related violations also decreased from 10 to 4 cases.
Lieutenant Colonel Phuong Thuc Dinh, Deputy Head of the Traffic Police Department of the Provincial Police, said: Although the number of violations has tended to decrease, in reality there are still many cases of non-compliance, showing that the awareness of traffic law compliance in the community is not high. Our strong handling of violations of alcohol and drug concentrations will directly impact the awareness of traffic participants. Thereby, it will raise people's awareness of compliance, while ensuring safety for the drivers themselves and the community. We will continue to organize regular and continuous patrol plans, resolutely handling violations, especially violations of alcohol and drug concentrations when participating in traffic.
As a result, in the first quarter of 2025, the province had 113 traffic accidents, of which 22 were determined to be caused by drivers violating alcohol concentration. In the second quarter, the number of accidents related to this cause decreased to 12, down 54% compared to the first quarter. Notably, in both the first two quarters of the year, the province did not record any traffic accidents directly caused by drug use. This shows the clear effectiveness of the campaign with the drastic participation of the functional forces.
Since the beginning of 2025, the provincial traffic police have also actively implemented the handling of violations related to alcohol and drug concentrations. In the first 6 months of the year, the implementation of topics on handling violations that are the main causes of traffic accidents, including topics on alcohol and drug concentrations. The traffic police have handled 3,014 cases of alcohol concentration, a decrease of 2,981 cases compared to the same period; 14 cases of drugs in the body, a decrease of 3 cases compared to the same period.
In the coming time, the traffic police force will continue to maintain regular inspections, at the same time promote propaganda and strictly handle violations of traffic safety order in a focused and key direction to prevent re-offending. However, to achieve sustainable effectiveness, the most important thing is still the self-awareness of traffic participants. When each individual strictly complies with the provisions of the law, traffic accidents will be limited, contributing to the formation of a safe and civilized traffic culture in the community.
