On the evening of July 13, Dr. Tran Thanh Son, Deputy Director of the International Center for Interdisciplinary Science andEducation (ICISE, Quy Nhon Nam Ward, Gia Lai) said that the President of the French Republic signed a decree to promote the National Legion of Honor, Officer rank, to Professor Tran Thanh Van (Chairman of the Rencontres du Vietnam Association in France) and his wife, Professor Le Kim Ngoc (Chairman of the Association for the Protection of Vietnamese Children in France).
This is a noble award to honor the great and lasting contributions of two Vietnamese scientists in the fields of science and humanitarian activities over the past half century.

Professor Tran Thanh Van (from Dong Hoi, Quang Binh ) is a world-famous Vietnamese physicist. He is the founder of the international physics conference series Rencontres Moriond, Rencontres Blois, Rencontres Vietnam and especially the ICISE Center in Quy Nhon.
In Vietnam, Professor Tran Thanh Van and his wife are associated with four major pillars: the Rencontres du Vietnam, the ICISE Center, the Vallet Scholarship, and the construction and sponsorship of SOS Children's Villages. In 2000, he was awarded the Knight of the Legion of Honor. In 2012, he was honored to receive the Tate Medal of the American Physical Society, one of the most prestigious awards in the scientific community.
Professor Le Kim Ngoc (from Vinh Long), studied at Marie Curie University (HCMC) before studying abroad and graduating with honors in natural sciences at Sorbonne University (France). She was the first person in the world to introduce the concept of "Thin Cell Layer", a revolutionary discovery in plant biotechnology, widely cited in international works.
In 2016 in Ho Chi Minh City, she was awarded the Knight of the Legion of Honor by French President François Hollande.

In 2008, Professor Tran Thanh Van and his wife, Professor Le Kim Ngoc, returned to Binh Dinh (now Gia Lai province) to carry out the project of building the ICISE Center. On August 12, 2013, the center was inaugurated with the aspiration of becoming a place where science, education and humanities intersect.
Since then, ICISE has organized more than 200 scientific events, attracting nearly 16,500 scientists from 60 countries and territories, including many Nobel Prize winners, Dirac Medalists and Fields Medalists... In the past 5 years alone, ICISE has welcomed nearly 10,000 scientists, including more than 7,600 Vietnamese.
On July 8, 2015, Vice President Nguyen Thi Doan awarded the Friendship Medal (the highest award of the State for foreigners and overseas Vietnamese who have contributed to Vietnam) to the couple Professor Le Kim Ngoc and Tran Thanh Van.
