Information and Communications industry contributes nearly 989,000 billion VND to the country's GDP

The United Nations' 2024 E- Government Development Index (EGDI) survey report shows that in 2024, Vietnam rose to 71st place out of 193 countries, up 15 places compared to 2022. This is the first time Vietnam has been ranked in the EGDI group at a very high level and has the highest ranking since it began participating in the United Nations' EGDI assessment in 2003.

In 2024, the total revenue of the IT industry is estimated to reach 4,243,984 billion VND, an increase of 13.2% compared to 2023.

In Southeast Asia, Vietnam ranked 5th out of 11 countries in e-Government, up 1 place compared to 2022. In September 2024, the International Telecommunication Union (ITU) also announced the 2024 Global Cybersecurity Index (GCI).

Accordingly, Vietnam has increased 8 places since the report published in 2021, rising to 17th place out of 194 countries and territories worldwide, 4th in the Asia- Pacific region and 3rd among countries in the Association of Southeast Asian Nations (ASEAN) in the field of cybersecurity.

Minister of Information and Communications Nguyen Manh Hung emphasized the role of the industry in promoting the digital age.

Vietnam achieved almost perfect scores for the 5 assessment criteria of the GCI and was ranked as a "model" level 1 country (the highest level of 5 levels), a group of "exemplary" countries. At the same time, it is in the top 3 groups of leading countries in the world .

In November 2024, the Universal Postal Union (UPU) announced the integrated index of postal development in Vietnam. Accordingly, Vietnam Post in 2024 was ranked up from group 6 (in 2023) to group 8.

In 2024, the total revenue of the IT industry is estimated to reach VND 4,243,984 billion, an increase of 13.2% compared to 2023. The contribution to the state budget is estimated at VND 109,478 billion, an increase of 15.1% compared to 2023. The contribution to GDP of the IT industry is estimated at VND 989,016 billion, an increase of 11.2% compared to 2023. The total number of employees in the IT industry is estimated at about 1,542,994, an increase of 02% compared to 2023.

In addition, telecommunications and digital infrastructure have been widely covered, with Vietnam's 4G phone coverage currently reaching 99.8% of the population; the rate of households covered by fiber optic broadband internet reaching 82.9%, basically achieving and exceeding the target set by 2025 in the National Strategy for Digital Economy and Digital Society Development by 2025, with a vision to 2030.

Deputy Prime Minister Ho Duc Phoc emphasized the issue of network safety and security in the digital age.

Speaking at the conference, Deputy Prime Minister Ho Duc Phoc emphasized that in the coming time, the information and communications sector needs to actively innovate, create, overcome limitations, and overcome challenges.

At the same time, promote digital transformation, develop digital infrastructure, improve service capacity, strongly apply AI and promote digital industry. Thereby contributing to realizing the goal of a new era, an era of national development.

The Deputy Prime Minister said that we are currently very favorable, the Politburo has issued a resolution on breakthroughs in science and technology development, innovation, and national digital transformation. This is the command and responsibility of the industry in creating breakthroughs and promoting economic development. This is also the guideline for our actions in the coming time.

“If we want a digital economy, we must have modern digital technology. If we want modern digital technology, we must develop digital industry. To achieve this, we must improve institutional and legal issues and innovate to develop,” the Deputy Prime Minister noted.
