
The project will focus on repairing damage to maintain the appropriate exploitation capacity according to the actual conditions of the old Cau Lau bridge, including 34 simple T-shaped girder spans made of prestressed reinforced concrete with a total length of 24.7m; total bridge length to the end of the abutment is 841.45m and the bridge width is 9.7m. At the same time, the calculated load for bridge repair ensures a live load of 0.5HL93, a group of people 3kN/m2 (exploitation load according to the test load test results after completing the repair construction).

Specifically, the construction unit will repair damage and reinforce bridge piers; repair damaged main girders and bridge decks; repair and reinforce horizontal connections; sidewalks and railings; repair bridge decks; relocate and reinstall existing lighting poles; road signaling systems; add surveillance cameras at the northern end of the bridge; and repair other damages such as bridge bearings, bridge deck drainage pipes, damaged expansion joints, etc.
Notably, with the sunken pillar (T8 pillar) and 8 pillars located within the deeply eroded riverbed, each pillar was reinforced with 2 additional 1.2 m diameter reinforced concrete bored piles; the pile cap was made of reinforced concrete connected to the existing piles. The beam system on the T8 pillar was lifted, the height of the subsidence compensation stone was repaired and replaced with a steel plate rubber pillow.
For positions of pier caps and reinforced concrete piles with broken concrete, the concrete will be patched with high-strength non-shrink mortar. Damaged steel shell of notched piles, concrete defects inside the pile will be chiseled out, patched with high-strength cement mortar; replace damaged steel shell with hot-dip galvanized steel sheet processed in the shape of notched piles.
The project is invested by the Department of Transport of Quang Nam . The main contractor is Quang Nam Transport Construction Joint Stock Company; the construction supervision consultant is Quang Nam Transport Consulting Joint Stock Company. The project will start on September 29, 2024 and is expected to be completed on September 29, 2025.
