Nghe An: Successfully rescued 5 people trapped in flood water

On the night of July 22, comrade Lo Dinh Thu, Chairman of the People's Committee of Muong Xen commune (Nghe An), said that the locality had just mobilized forces and means to rescue 5 people trapped in floodwaters.

Accordingly, due to the rapid floodwaters, 5 people in a house located on the Nam Mo River, Block 5, Muong Xen Commune were isolated in the middle of a whirlpool. The water was pouring in more and more, causing people to panic and call for help from the local authorities. Immediately after that, Muong Xen Commune organized forces and means to rescue and find a way to get people out. In the urgent situation, comrade Vi Van Hieu, Commander of the Muong Xen Commune Military Command, tied a rope to himself and asked his teammates for help to swim to the location where the victims were stuck in the middle of the floodwaters. Then, with the support of other forces and means, he brought 5 people out of the dangerous area.

During the performance of his duties, Comrade Hieu was injured in the leg by a sharp object. Comrade Vi Van Hieu is the character in the article “Commander of the local people”, the 15th “Simple but noble examples” contest, 2023, organized by the People's Army Newspaper in coordination with other units.

Talking to us, Ms. Bui Thi Que, a resident who was taken out of the floodwaters by local authorities, shared: “Seeing the flood coming, I and everyone else tried to save our property but it was too late and we were stuck. Surrounded by floodwaters, we were very scared, only after being taken out of the house by the forces did we feel secure again. It was so heartbreaking, all the valuable assets in the family were lost”!

The flood situation in the highland communes of Nghe An province is still very tense. Not only in Muong Xen commune, but also in My Ly and Bac Ly communes, villages on both sides of the Nam Non river are deeply flooded. Many families in Bac Ly commune have lost their houses and many valuable assets. Currently, local forces are trying to support people in coping, however, due to the rugged terrain, heavy floods, many isolated residential areas, and thin forces, they are facing many challenges.
