In addition to eliminating mobile signal depressions, Nghe An aims to cover 4G and 5G in 100% of residential areas in cities, towns, tourist attractions and industrial parks by 2025.
With complex mountainous terrain and harsh weather, Nghe An - the largest province in the country, is facing many challenges in developing digital infrastructure.
However, realizing the importance of digital infrastructure in promoting economic development, Nghe An is making constant efforts to improve the situation.
According to a report by the Department of Information and Communications of Nghe An province, the current rate of adult population with smartphones in this locality is 74.65%. The rate of households with someone using a smartphone is up to 95.03%.
Notably, 68% of households have been covered by fiber optic broadband Internet. These figures show the increasing demand for connectivity among people in the province.
Nghe An currently has about 8,500 BTS 3G, 4G transmission stations, covering nearly 99% of the province. 100% of communes and 95% of villages/hamlets in Nghe An have stable broadband mobile waves.
In particular, 100% of communes meeting new rural, advanced new rural and model new rural standards have stable broadband mobile waves covering the entire area.
Despite the encouraging results, Nghe An still faces difficulties in eliminating signal depressions. The whole province still has more than 60 villages and hamlets without national grid electricity, meaning no mobile coverage or poor quality signals. Terrain and weather conditions also pose many obstacles to the deployment of telecommunications infrastructure.
Many areas have electricity and Internet, but the transmission quality is not stable. In Nghe An, there are villages with electricity and phone signal, but they cannot always be used because there are many areas with no signal. Therefore, people have to look for places with "strong signal" to use.
Faced with this situation, Nghe An has been making efforts to eliminate signal depressions. In 2024, Nghe An Department of Information and Communications has reviewed signal depressions to develop a coverage plan.
According to the review of businesses, in Nghe An, VinaPhone currently has about 464 areas, Viettel 245 areas, MobiFone 73 areas with low signal.
In Plan 1004/KH-UBND on digital transformation of Nghe An province in 2024, to overcome difficulties and limitations, the plan clearly states that this locality will step up the review and elimination of signal depressions in the area, ensuring the speed of mobile telecommunications networks.
In 2024, Nghe An will accelerate the coverage of fiber optic cable and broadband mobile networks to all villages, hamlets, and residential areas, increasing the rate of Internet users, especially in rural areas.
At the same time, the province has improved connection capacity and network service quality, covering white areas and areas with gaps in broadband network connection.
In the coming time, the Department of Information and Communications of Nghe An province will direct telecommunications enterprises in the area to promote investment and development of digital infrastructure, ensuring 100% coverage of the entire province by 2025, eliminating all signal depressions, strengthening the 4G network, and prioritizing the development of new 5G stations in urban areas, industrial parks, and tourist areas.
Accompanying the locality, the two network operators VNPT VinaPhone and Viettel have registered to develop over 700 BTS stations in Nghe An province by 2025.
According to Nghe An province's digital transformation plan in 2025, the province aims to have 100% of residential areas in cities, towns, tourist attractions and industrial parks covered by 4G and 5G.
