Previously, on December 9, 2024, the Department of Agriculture and Rural Development of Quang Nam (now the Department of Agriculture and Environment) issued a Decision on recognizing and granting Certificates of recognition of traditional occupations for 7 occupations in the province, including Cam Nam sticky corn.
With the recognition as a traditional craft of the province, Cam Nam sticky corn craft will have more support in terms of regulations, mechanisms and policies to support the development of rural occupations and craft villages in Quang Nam province in the period of 2023 - 2025 to preserve and promote this unique craft.
According to the leader of Hoi An City People's Committee, this title further motivates local people to continue to preserve and stick with the profession and contribute to more widely introducing the sticky corn profession to domestic and foreign tourists.
Sticky corn has long been a staple crop of Cam Nam - a fertile, rich land surrounded by rivers from the downstream branches of the Thu Bon River.
Since 2014, Hoi An City has organized a sticky corn festival and it has been maintained until now. This is one of the moves to preserve and promote the value of the sticky corn profession, thereby increasing the brand value of this product through cultural festivals as well as tourism activities.
