Every harvest season, besides the image of farmers busy in the golden fields, there is also the familiar figure of trucks loaded with rice running back and forth across each field, drying point or gathering place. That is the work of those who work as hired rice carriers - a seasonal job that, although hard, is helping many people in Ha Tinh earn a significant income.

Mr. Dang Van Hung (Thach Binh commune, Ha Tinh city) has been working as a hired rice transporter for the past 4 years. Every harvest season, Mr. Hung is busy from early morning until late at night. “Every day, I make at least 20 trips, each trip is paid from 100,000 to 200,000 VND, depending on the volume of rice and the distance transported. If I work regularly, I can earn from 2 to 3 million VND,” Mr. Hung said happily.

Although it is a side job, transporting rice for hire has also brought a significant income for Mr. Hung.
Sharing more about his work, Mr. Hung could not hide his fatigue but his eyes still showed excitement: “Some days I have to wake up at 5am and work until midnight. It is okay when it is sunny, but when it rains I have to be quick to transport rice back to preserve for the people. It is tiring but earning money from sweat and effort like this makes me very happy.”
For Mr. Hung, this is just a side job but it has become the main source of income for the family during the harvest season. The work only lasts a few weeks but if you are diligent, it can help the family save a decent amount of money.
Not only Mr. Hung, Mr. Tran Van Phuong (Cam Vinh commune, Ha Tinh city) is also a person with many years of experience in the rice transport business. It is known that on peak days, he can transport 20-30 rice trips per day, helping his family earn a decent income.

“Every day is full of work, without rest. Some days I work from early morning until late at night. Even meals are eaten in a hurry so that I can deliver rice to my people on time. Although I am tired, I still have extra money to earn, so I always try my best,” Mr. Phuong shared.

For Mr. Hung and Mr. Phuong, this job requires health, agility and carefulness. They are not only simple transporters but also have to observe the road in the field, choose a path to avoid getting stuck in the mud, and keep both people and vehicles safe. Each bag of rice when transported must be arranged neatly and securely, because if they accidentally tear the bag or spill the rice, they will lose the trust of the farmers, directly affecting the work of the next crop.
Although it is a seasonal job, it is a money-making opportunity for many local workers. On average, a hired rice transporter can earn 2-3 million VND/day, and if they are "steady" and healthy, their income can reach 4-5 million VND/day.

According to farmers, the demand for rice transportation increases dramatically during the harvest season. The rush of harvesting in a short period of time makes the pressure of bringing rice from the field to home urgent. However, not every family has a vehicle, so the rental service becomes very necessary. However, due to the nature of the job, which requires a lot of effort and time, the number of people doing this job is not much. This leads to a situation of "demand exceeding supply". There are times when the "drivers" transporting rice are booked all day, many households have to wait in line, even make an appointment in advance to get their turn.
"This job is hard but very necessary. Every time the rice arrives at the yard, seeing the joy of the farmers makes me feel warm. This is not only a job to earn a living but also a love for our fellow farmers" - Mr. Nguyen Van Nam (Viet Tien commune, Thach Ha), a person who is attached to the job of transporting rice for hire, confided.

For farmers, the appearance of rice transportation services has made the harvest much easier and more efficient. "Before, there were no rental vehicles, I had to pull a small cart to transport rice, but the quantity was not much, sometimes it took me a whole morning to finish. Now, I just need to call a car and wait for my turn, in just a moment the rice is transported to my house" - Ms. Tran Thi Lan (Nam Phuc Thang commune, Cam Xuyen) shared.

Amidst the bustling scene of the harvest season, the image of trucks loaded with rice rumbling through the village roads has become familiar. The hired rice transporters like Mr. Hung, Mr. Phuong, and Mr. Nam, though quiet and unobtrusive, play an important role in each crop season. They have contributed to helping the golden season come faster, more neatly, and more completely to the farmers.
Although they are just side jobs, with diligence and dedication, they are writing a valuable story of making a living in their homeland's fields every day.
