The traditional salt making profession of Thuy Hai commune (Thai Binh) is a National Intangible Cultural Heritage.

On May 11 (April 14 of the lunar calendar), in Thuy Hai commune, Thai Thuy district, Thai Binh province, many people and tourists attended the Lady of Salt Festival.

This year's festival has a special meaning, which is to receive the Decision of the Minister of Culture, Sports and Tourism certifying that the traditional salt making profession of Thuy Hai commune is included in the list of National Intangible Cultural Heritage.

The Lady of Salt Festival is an important cultural and spiritual event, held annually to commemorate the Lady of Salt, who made great contributions to promoting the traditional salt-making profession of this land. The Lady of Salt Temple was built in the late 12th century, is the center of the festival and is where people express their respect and gratitude.

The ceremony took place with solemn traditional rituals, recreating the spiritual and cultural beauty of the coastal countryside. The festival was bustling with many unique cultural and artistic activities, imbued with the cultural identity of the coastal ethnic groups. Attending the festival, visitors also had the opportunity to immerse themselves in folk games, traditional art performances and especially the opportunity to experience the unique cuisine from Thuy Hai salt.

The traditional salt-making profession in Thuy Hai has a history of hundreds of years and is an indispensable part of the economic and cultural life of the local people. Thuy Hai salt is famous for its pure salt grains, not too salty thanks to the unique production method passed down from generation to generation. The fact that Thuy Hai salt-making profession has been recognized as a National Intangible Cultural Heritage is a worthy recognition of the cultural, historical and economic values ​​that the salt-making profession brings.

This year’s Lady of Salt Festival is not only an opportunity for local people to be proud of their homeland’s cultural heritage, but also an opportunity to promote the image of Thuy Hai to domestic and foreign tourists. Thai Binh province and local people are making efforts to develop tourism associated with preserving cultural heritage, creating conditions for tourists to learn about the history, culture and experience the lives of local people.

Thai Binh province strives to welcome over 4.5 million visitors per year by 2030, including about 10,000 international visitors or more; create jobs for about 14,600 workers; tourism revenue reaches about 7,000 billion VND. By 2050, welcome over 9 million tourists per year, including about 30,000 international visitors or more; tourism revenue reaches over 18,000 billion VND...
