Việt NamViệt Nam09/12/2023

In the cultural heritage of Vietnamese ethnic groups, Muong cultural heritage has a strong mark in many fields. To introduce and honor Muong cultural values, recently, the Provincial Museum organized an exhibition of artifacts with the theme "Listen to the pottery story". Thereby introducing to the public the customs and practices of the ancient Muong people.

Teachers and students of Ly Tu Trong Secondary School ( Hoa Binh City ) visit the exhibition booth with the theme "Listening to the pottery story" at the Provincial Museum.

Excited, interested in seeing and learning about the exhibits - that is the feeling and action of students of Ly Tu Trong Secondary School (Hoa Binh City) when attending the exhibition of ceramics with the theme "Listening to the pottery story". Here, students witnessed artifacts and heritages associated with each historical period, were introduced and learned about the meaning and existence of each artifact. This is also the historical and cultural knowledge of the province that is vividly and attractively conveyed to students.

Do Huyen Chi, class 9A1, Ly Tu Trong Secondary School shared: Experiential activities like this are very interesting, helping us understand more about the cultural values and historical relics of the province, especially through thematic exhibitions, the ceramics are displayed delicately and beautifully. We hope to have more practical experiential activities so that the younger generation can understand more and be proud of the cultural values of Hoa Binh.

Invited by the Department of Culture, Sports and Tourism to attend the exhibition, Dr. Nguyen Van Viet, Director of the Southeast Asian Prehistory Center, shared: Entering the ceramic exhibition room, we feel the warm atmosphere because earth and fire are the two main ingredients that make ceramics and porcelain all over the world . When researching ceramics and porcelain in Vietnam, any researcher must think of Hoa Binh province. The reason is that when we excavated prehistoric caves of the period when humans began to make ceramics, Hoa Binh was one of the first places, for example, Xom Trai cave, Vanh village stone roof... In those caves, we discovered the first ceramic pieces, the layers are 9,000 years old. Visiting the exhibition room at the museum, we see that the development of humans is always associated with beautiful ceramics. Especially in the period when the Lang Dao first appeared, there were ceramics that were among the most valuable in Vietnam and Southeast Asian countries, such as large jars that are considered treasures. We are very pleased that the Provincial Museum organized a thematic exhibition to introduce to the people and tourists inside and outside the province. Through propaganda and promotion, researchers will come to learn at the Hoa Binh Provincial Museum. Researchers and ceramic enthusiasts can hear and feel the "whispering" and "breath" of ceramics from the voices of the craftsmen making the products, to the sophisticated patterns, shapes, and glazes that make up the ceramic and porcelain products...

With the theme "Listen to the pottery's story", the Provincial Museum introduced over 250 ceramic and porcelain artifacts, documents, and vivid visual images about the history and culture of Hoa Binh province, aiming to introduce to the public evidence carrying messages from the past, truly reflecting the social life as well as ancient customs and practices in the Muong land. Through ceramic documents and ancient ceramic artifacts, we know more clearly about the history of Muong tombs; the cultural and economic exchanges of Muong people through many periods.

The Muong people are indigenous people who have lived for a long time in Hoa Binh. In the history of development, the Muong people did not have the profession of making pottery and porcelain, but only had a traditional handicraft known as weaving. However, in the ancient tombs that have been surveyed and excavated in the Muong areas of Hoa Binh, burial objects were mainly pottery and porcelain in large quantities, showing great historical values. Typical examples are the Kim Truy ancient tombs; the Dong Thech ancient tombs, Vinh Dong commune, Kim Boi district and many other Muong areas in the province. Through the display of documents and artifacts, it contributes to introducing and widely propagating to cadres, party members and people about the unique and special collections of ceramic artifacts in the ancient tombs of the Muong people. The ceramic collection is considered a treasure of the wealthy class, reflecting many aspects of the life, culture and society of the upper class in society at that time and the cultural and economic exchanges of the Muong people through many historical periods. Thereby affirming that Muong ethnic culture not only has a long history and rich traditions, but today continues to be preserved and developed in building an advanced Vietnamese culture with strong national identity.
