Many people were surprised when looking at the UEFA Club Rankings, which were updated on Tuesday (June 3). PSG's position has changed. From 4th place, after winning the Champions League and receiving 33,500 points in the 2024/25 season, they have... fallen to 5th place.

This is actually quite reasonable, because the rankings are based on the results of the last 5 seasons. Before winning the championship this season, PSG's performance in the previous 4 seasons was quite erratic, with 2 semi-final appearances and 2 round of 16 exits. In total, Les Parisiens have 118,500 points, behind Liverpool (125,500), Bayern (135,250), Man City (137,750) and Real (143,500).

The UEFA Club Rankings are used to allocate TV rights in the Champions League, as well as determine places in Europe's top competition and the FIFA Club World Cup. However, PSG have not been affected much by the drop.

As champions, PSG are automatically one of the eight seeded teams in next season's Champions League. The French side qualified for the 2025 FIFA Club World Cup thanks to their previous good position in the UEFA rankings, and then secured a place in the tournament in 2029 thanks to their recent European Championship triumph.

In addition, PSG's achievements also helped France consolidate their 5th place in the UEFA federation rankings, ensuring 4 Champions League spots. They also shortened the gap with Germany, who are in 4th place, although catching up is very difficult (73,093 points compared to 86,331).
