Regarding this issue, Dr. Pham Duy Linh - Department of Plastic Surgery and Aesthetics (Duc Giang General Hospital, Hanoi ) shared:

Recently, we received treatment for a 68-year-old male patient with a congenital mole in the forehead-left eyebrow area. The patient considered it a "feng shui" mole, bringing fortune and luck, so he tried to preserve it. However, a few months ago, although he saw the mole growing abnormally fast, the patient did not go to the doctor, afraid of "violating feng shui". Only when the mole caused itching, skin ulcers, and discharge did the patient go for a check-up. After being examined and having specialized tests done, it was found that the patient had melanoma. After consulting with specialists, the doctors of the Plastic Surgery Department performed a wide excision of the cancerous mass combined with immediate cold biopsy tests during the surgery to ensure the removal of all malignant tissue, using a local skin flap to restore and cover the defect. The surgery was successful after about 2 hours. The patient recovered quickly and was discharged after 5 days of treatment.

It can be said that the vast majority of moles on the skin are benign, but there are some moles that are potential signs of melanoma. Initially, melanoma can look like a benign and harmless mole, but gradually the structure will be disordered and increase in size. The disease is high risk in people with many moles, especially in cases where there are more than 100 moles all over the body.

Regarding the signs of moles progressing to cancer, it is necessary to have a specialist examination and treatment when there are signs of asymmetry: Normally, moles are round and oval, with both sides symmetrical, but with moles at risk of malignancy, the two sides are not symmetrical; abnormal borders: Benign moles have soft, rounded borders, but malignant moles have crooked, uneven borders; inconsistent color: Instead of just brown or black, moles at risk of malignancy have dark, light, black, brown or depigmented areas; large size: Moles over 6mm in size are considered to have risk factors; abnormal development: With moles at risk of malignancy, the time to change from small to large size is very short, possibly only a few months. In some cases, when moles appear in an unsightly location or are oversized, they need to be removed. Before removing moles, you should consult with experienced doctors to remove moles safely and effectively.

Nowadays, many women are following the trend of removing moles or removing moles to change their luck. Many cases go to the spa to burn moles using methods such as laser, electric burning, or chemical removal without being diagnosed as malignant or not. This causes cancerous lesions to spread, invade deeper and wider, causing unfortunate consequences. Therefore, the best advice for those who want to remove moles or remove moles is to go to a reputable medical facility to avoid "losing money and getting sick".
