In the first scene, Quynh is rescued from the bottom of the sea. In the next scene, the character deals a deadly blow to the female lead Andy. Quynh takes revenge because she believes she has been abandoned by her friends, and is imprisoned for 500 years at the bottom of the sea. The character is heavily psychologically affected during her imprisonment, harboring hatred towards humanity.

Previously, director Gina Prince-Bythewood revealed that Quynh plays the role of opening the second part, the agent that causes many problems. The film follows the original comic book closely.

Quynh is the first teammate of the main character Andy, fighting side by side for thousands of years. The two have the superpower of being immortal and self-healing. Once, when they fell into the enemy's trap, they were accused of being witches and suffered all kinds of physical punishment. Quynh was imprisoned in an iron coffin by the execution team and thrown to the bottom of the sea, while Andy later escaped.

In part one, Ngo Thanh Van appears for about three minutes out of 124 minutes, through flashbacks of supporting characters. She fully exploits her acting through her eyes and body, portraying the suffering of a tortured and humiliated warrior. Before being imprisoned, Quynh screams Andy's name in despair.

Although she only had a few lines, the actress's appearance, voice, and demeanor left an impression on viewers, foreshadowing her return and revenge. Screenwriter Greg Rucka told Polygon : "I think what Veronica did with that one line in that scene was chilling."

In the original story, Ngo Thanh Van's character was Japanese, named Noriko. However, when she accepted the role, she requested to change her name to Vietnamese and the crew agreed. Greg Rucka - co-author of the comic The Old Guard, screenwriter - told Polygon : "When Veronica (Ngo Thanh Van's English name) was cast, she said I'm not Japanese, I'm Vietnamese. The director then contacted me and said: 'Can we change this?' and I completely agreed. Noriko becomes Quynh, Quynh is now Vietnamese. We respect that."

Last year, on Variety, Charlize Theron said that in part two, she and her co-stars performed more difficult action scenes, requiring everyone to focus and make a high effort.

Ngo Thanh Van, 46 years old, was a singer before working in the film industry. She was nicknamed "action girl" after the success of the film Dong Mau Anh Hung (2007), co-starring with Johnny Tri Nguyen. In the 2010s, she switched to film production and had many notable works such as Tam Cam: Chuyen Chua Chua Ke and Co Ba Sai Gon . In 2019, the film Hai Phuong , which she produced and starred in, earned more than 200 billion VND.

She has appeared in Hollywood films such as Crouching Tiger, Hidden Dragon: Sword of Destiny, Bright, Star Wars: The Last Jedi, Da 5 Bloods with the stage name Veronica.
