On the evening of September 1, the US State Department released information that Secretary of State Antony Blinken, on behalf of the US, "sent best wishes" to Vietnam on the occasion of National Day, September 2.
In his congratulatory message, Mr. Blinken emphasized that the US supports a "strong, prosperous, independent and self-reliant" Vietnam.
“We value the partnership our governments and peoples have built together and look forward to working together on priorities that advance our shared goal of a prosperous, open, resilient and peaceful Indo-Pacific region.”
The US Secretary of State also expressed his expectation of President Joe Biden's "historic visit" to Hanoi. According to him, the visit will be an opportunity for the two countries to review what has been achieved and "plan for their common future."
According to a previous announcement by the Vietnamese Ministry of Foreign Affairs, US President Joe Biden is scheduled to visit Vietnam on September 10 and 11 at the invitation of General Secretary Nguyen Phu Trong .
"We believe that the visits by the two countries' senior leaders will further deepen the Vietnam-US relationship, bringing the bilateral relationship to stable, substantive and long-term development in all areas, contributing to maintaining peace, stability, cooperation and development in the region as well as in the world," added Vietnamese Foreign Ministry spokesperson Pham Thu Hang.
This is the first time a US president has accepted an invitation to visit the General Secretary of the Communist Party of Vietnam. The visit takes place on the occasion of the 10th anniversary of the Comprehensive Partnership between the two countries.
