Mr. Rubio's status line reads: "30 years ago, the US and Vietnam began a memorable journey from former enemies to Comprehensive Strategic Partners.
Today, we reflect on this important milestone and reaffirm our commitment to work together to promote peace, prosperity and security for a free and open Indo- Pacific region."

Since US President Bill Clinton and Prime Minister Vo Van Kiet announced the normalization of diplomatic relations in 1995, Vietnam and the US have gradually expanded their cooperation. In 2013, the two sides established a Comprehensive Partnership and by September 2023, upgraded it to a Comprehensive Strategic Partnership for peace , cooperation and sustainable development.
On July 11, the US Embassy in Vietnam also posted a message from Ambassador Marc Knapper on the occasion of the 30th anniversary of Vietnam-US relations.
Ambassador Knapper shared: "On July 11, we proudly celebrate 30 years of diplomatic relations between the United States and Vietnam. In just three decades, our two countries have transformed from healing the wounds of war to becoming trusted partners, working together in areas such as trade, education, health, energy, and security.
Congratulations on 30 years of development and looking forward to the next 30 years of peace, security and prosperity for both countries."
On this occasion, Ambassador Marc Knapper met with the Vietnamese press to discuss and inform about important milestones and future directions of the bilateral relationship between the two countries...
Economy is an important pillar in the relationship between the two countries. Vietnam is currently the 8th largest trading partner of the US and the US is Vietnam's largest export market.
In terms of educational cooperation, Vietnam is the 6th largest source of foreign students in the US, with about 30,000 students studying and this number is increasing. The Ambassador hopes to see the opposite, with more American youth and more American scholars and researchers coming to Vietnam.
He talked about the bright spot in cooperation with the Fulbright program - the leading international educational exchange program of the US Government that is still operating very actively. Fulbright University Vietnam is an important organization that receives support from the US and the Vietnamese Government.
The US also pledged to support Vietnam in gradually implementing the policy of making English the second language in schools, considering this an important step that opens up many opportunities in high technology and education.

Defense cooperation is also an important pillar of cooperation. The Joint Statement on upgrading the Comprehensive Strategic Partnership in September 2023 affirmed the role of high-tech cooperation, especially in the semiconductor industry. The two countries recognize that Vietnam is fully capable and ready to rise up the global value chain in high-tech manufacturing.
High-tech leaders such as Tim Cook (Apple), Jensen Huang (Nvidia), and recently Qualcomm leaders have visited Vietnam, showing their interest in Vietnam's high-tech future.
Ambassador Knapper said the past 30 years have seen the expansion and deepening of trust and understanding between the two countries. Although the world is facing many challenges, the US and Vietnam have many common interests and goals, working together to solve problems ranging from health to cybersecurity, transnational crimes such as human trafficking and drugs...
According to the Ambassador, Vietnam has been proactive and active in discussions on tariffs and trade relations. General Secretary To Lam was one of the first foreign leaders to call President Donald Trump after the US announced its reciprocal tax policy.
The Vietnamese delegation's visit to work with US partners demonstrated Vietnam's initiative and active participation.
The Ambassador assessed that Vietnam has taken quick and proactive actions and is truly a great partner when the two sides discuss these issues together to achieve the current goals.
The high-level phone calls between General Secretary To Lam and President Donald Trump, as well as the activities of the two countries' high-level delegations, show that the Vietnam-US relationship is at its best and that the US respects Vietnam.
